Increase idle speed. Idles rough when in drive at a stop
The engine may be misfiring. I had a 2.4L engine that did that and at long last I discovered that the "Coil Cover Housing" needed to be replaced. This is because the coil cover housing has the spark plug wires molded into the plastic as part of its design. For me this caused an intermittent misfire in one of the cylinders.
SOURCE: engine runs rough new fuel pump and filter new
requiresa a litte knowledge to analize the info the computer is giving you ? not being smartelec just these cars generally only had minor issues with this condition either the converter was clogged or the mass airflow meter failing both are easy find with proper scanner so you may want to spend the $50 to get it tested good luck
SOURCE: Engine has no power, Idles in Park a little rough
THE FACT THAT IT GETS WORSE WHEN YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE INDICATES THAT YOU HAVE A VACUME LEAK.IF YOU DON'T FIND A LEAK,START PULLING PLUG WIRES OFF ONE AT A TIME TO SEE WHICH OF THE PLUGS HAVE FAILED,[THE ONE THAT YOU PULL OFF THAT DOES NOT CHANGE RPM IS THE ONE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR].

SOURCE: Hi I have a 1991
My 3.4 liter 91 Cutlass Supreme has similar problem when warm the engine misses (car jerks). But its fine at idle and without any accelerator pressure. The SERVICE ENGINE light also comes on intermittantly. I am going to test the ignition coils.
SOURCE: My 1991 olds, idles okay,
The ECM on a 1991 Oldsmobile is on the Passenger Side and up behind the passenger kick panel and glove box. It sounds like your ECM is overheating, causing it to fail after driving for a few miles. Replace the ECM and this problem should go away.
