Question about 2003 Renault Sportwagon

1 Answer

The temperature, revolution and spedometer indicators don't work!

In this morning, I've just start the engine and all things were fine.
After 100 meters, the temperature, revolution and odometer instruments were dead. Not even the number of kilometers is shown.
The strange fact is that: all the other instruments works, also the engine, lights and electrical windows.

Please help me...as long as possible without dealers help.

Thank You.

I would check the catlic converter to see if its not blocked, best thing to do is to go to a exhaust shop and they can do vacume test or tempreature test.

Hi, It's me again, the 97 Crown Vic. I understand exactly what you're saying and will have someone look under my car ASAP. The one thing that I just don't get is.... even when it's not...

Your car has a temperature senser and as soon as the temperature is above a certain level the engine fails as a way of safety. its a safety control switch . First start the engine when it is cool and then check the performance of the fan. Is the generating enough air to cool the engine.as it is running check the temperature gauge i the car and see the level . It could be the fan not providing enough air cool the engine.

GMC Envoy, dashboard gauges not working. Started with the gas gauge, then the battery, then the temperature, not the RPM. It seems like the gauges don't reset (or return to zero) when ignition is shut...

Could be a couple of things, one is your ignition switch may be going bad.

The other is, the little stepper motors on the back of the cluster, may be going too, both are very common.

By the way, normal operating temperature for the I6 engine is 210 degrees.

When turn on the car in the morning, i accelerate and the revolutions up to 6,000rpm normal. In 3 minute when the car up the motor temperature to the normal operation, i accelerate and the revolutions up...

To begin with, if you are revving a cold engine to 6000 RPM, you are asking for a blown engine. Most OBD vehicles are equipped with a rev limiter that will cut off fuel at 3000 to 4000 rpm to prevent you from over-revving your engine and blowing it up. If yours is revving to 6000 RPM cold, then the rev limiter, for some reason is not working while it is cold. I have no explaination for this. The best thing I can tell you is to stop revving your engine so high when it is cold unless you really want to see what an engine looks like after is has gone off like a grenade.

I have a 1998 Saturn SL2 DOHC with ~140,000 miles. The car runs great, but I am having trouble with the coolant temperature. When first starting the car up in the morning, the coolant temperature gauge...

When you said you replaced everything, did that include the temperature sending unit?
The temperature sensor just operates the cooling fan or fans for the radiator.
The temperature sending unit operates the temperature gauge in the dashboard. If that thing is faulty, the gauge won't work right.
If you did change the sending unit, it could be possible that the computor is screwing it up, but in my 41 years as a mechanic I never heard of it, when a computor goes, nothing works.

Cant make check engine light turn off.

if its a manual speedo then it needs changing ,the magnet /spring inside is either worn or dirty inside the unit causing it to drag.as for the engine check light ??? well i do feel you are wasting you hard earnt cash on this stuff i think it is no more than a split in on of the little vacumn tubes running off the inlet manifold to various things .Make sure this vehicle has a 88ºC thermostat fitted and when you have a cold engine drive straight off and dont warm it up`because you are causing more damage to it running it to warm it up .Starting off from cold will cause it to warm up quicker causing less engine wear. The sluggish gearchanges ?? well how old is it and dont you think the gearbox is a bit worn after all this time like us when we get old .

Cooling fan operation

sounds to me like the thermostat is sticking and allowing the car to overheat. with the a/c on the fan comes on and runs constantly to keep the engine cool
