Check starter relay. Starter solenoid may be bad. If its turning over, but not starting, check all battery connections and connections in the starter. Make sure no wires on the starter are touching. Make sure battery is also grounded to the firewall, block or chassi. If the problem still persists, check your cap and rotor if you have them. If coil pack(s) one (if more than one) may be bad, and can be tested at an auto parts dealer. Also consider checking any and all relays, fuses, and fusable links. Sometimes its the simplist of things so be sure to make sure your coil wire itself is properly secure at both ends. The least amount of contact will make a huge difference. I also suggest having your alternator tested. First, try jump starting the car. If it does not jump start after a few tries, stop and have the entire charging system tested.

What are you working on? Is it gas or diesel? Sounds like a fuel problem to me.

SOURCE: 95 jeep cherokee seemed to run fine but left overnight it wont

You changed the ignition coil from distributor right?
secondly make sure distributor is not internally shattered (which is a common problem). Normally the current comes from Crank sensor or cam shaft sensor !

SOURCE: seemed to run fine but left overnight it wont

Check...don't just replace the crank sensor (on bellhousing even with flywheel on drivers side harness goes up on that side near back of engine & master cyl. You should have no continuity between b&c terminals (show open circuit) If any connection at all its bad. (check with ohmeter)

SOURCE: Bought a new coil pack, but with it the engine won't start. Sounds like no spark at all. Put the old coil pack back on and it starts instantly as always. Wondering if the firing order is different

Coil packs do not have firing orders, engines do. I suspect you were given the incorrect part.

1999 Holden Astra automatic not starting?

You need to get a professional mechanic to look at this. You need to find out where this oil came from. There are very few places on the top of an engine where oil can come from. At best it could simply be where it has been spilled when topping up the oil level. At worst it could be something more serious affecting the cylinder head.
Do you have any warning lights on the dashboard? Have you tried scanning the vehicle for OBD2 trouble codes? These will give clues as to why it won't start. If you have to pay for this ask at 3 or 4 different places as prices can be VERY different.
You may need to replace all the spark plugs and the coil packs. If oil has gotten deep into the coil pack where you can't reach to clean it out it will cause an electrical short and no spark.

My 1996 Ford explorer it was running fine the day before, it won't start. Seems like it wants to start. I plugged the code reader up and it wont connect. I'm stumped.

Check all fuses includeing main fuse if all good. While cranking check for spark if spark present check for fuel pressure , if no spark test coil if coil is good I would suspect a bad computer if no fuel pressure you have a bad fuel pump

How do i put new coilpacks on my 2003 trailblazer?

Hello Deborah,

Place a spark tester on your coil lead to test for spark.

If you have fuel pressure, reasonable compression and a spark your engine should at least try to start.

Why did you replace the coil packs in the first place? and did your vehicle run before the swap?

Dodge dakota pickups won't run. cam sensor or pickup sensor?

I would need to know what year and engine size you have.
If you know for a fact you have no spark to the plugs, it could be a relay, a faulty coil, or a sensor. You would check for voltage and a ground signal at the coil first.

94sierrs 350 tbi not starting after changing distributor! Cranks strong won't turn over! Seem like there no spark or fuel

Did you by chance unhook the oil pressure sender. heThe vehical will not supply spark if is not hooked up. Crank the engine and watch the oil pressure gauge and look to see if it moves. It is located at the rear of the intake about 3 inches long cylinder shaped. Also look to see if you plugged the coil in the correct position.

My ford focuskeeps missing if sparks on 12 AND 3 BUT NO SPARK ON 4 CHANGED PLUGS AND LEADS CAN YOU HELP PLEASE

This has a coil pack and four spark plug wires, correct? If so and you have replaced the spark plug wires and you don't have any spark out number four but you have spark on number one than you have a bad coil. You can remove the number four wire from the coil start the engine. Use. Test light connected to ground and place it near the opening in the coil that the spark plug wire goes into. You should see a sharp strong snappy spark. You may find that you have to hold the test light really close to the metal part inside the oil tower to see any spark. If this is the case you have a bad coil. Be careful when checking for spark. There is between 30 - 40 thousand volts generated but the merge is extremely low. If you get zapped it's going to tickle. Bit but it won't kill you. Good luck and let me know what you find.

98 Sportage changed new plugs, wires, and boot and (fuse?) for coil packs. But now misfiring on 4th cylinder. Prior to tune was only getting poor fuel economy no misfires at all. What would i fix next?

if you started out with no misfire at all and then got a misfire after the tune up that does seem strange, my best guess would be that the plugs are not gapped correctly or the spark plug wire is, not completely snapped on, or the wire on the 4th cylinder was damaged when it was removed, i would start out making sure all the wires are on, you will either hear of feel a small snap when the wire is seated on the plug good, also make sure the wire is connected to the coil good

1997 Plymouth Breeze

Most probably ur crank position sensor or the pick-up coil is defective (or nearly). What that does is the computer knows where the No.1 cylinder is so that he knows when to send the spark to the correct spark plug. Now ur computer doesn't seem to know where the No.1 cylinder is, so he fires at random. Eventually the spark lands at the right place at the right time, hence ur engine is long to start.
That is my best guess.
