1992 f150 front axle to diff. seal replacement


OK, you must remove the front axle assembly to access the axle flange and then the seal, follow the instructions at the link but once the axle is out remove the axle flange from the front diff and replace the axle seal, use a seal driver and lube the new seal with lithium grease (white grease). You will need an air impact to get the flange nut off, replace it with a new one (do not reuse) and do not over tighten it. Cinch it down and then go about 1/8 more of full nut rotation to preload carrier bearing setting then spike in place. Ford F150 Front Axle Replacement Part 1

No 4WD due to front axle slipping out of differential


if this is a common problem there may be a service bulletin on it at the service dealers shop. Contact the manufacturers technical department on line and make your complaint well known and you may get help from the factory. If you can remove the diff cover and see the diff crown wheel and carrier inside then turn the carrier until you can see the end of the axle inside a gear. Some diff assemblies require a thick "C" clip to fit in the groove in the axle end to keep the axle in the diff. ON jeeps there is a problem with this type of set up where by the "c" clip becomes dislodged in severe operating conditions and the axle and wheel comes out from under the vehicle. Check that if you have clips that they are not stuck to the magnet on the drain plug

How do you remove rear axle from 1995 ford ranger 2 wheel drive need to replace oil seal


Raise the vehicle and properly support it. Remove the wheel and drum. Remove the rear diff cover, have a drain pan underneath to catch the gear oil. Place the trans in nuetral, chalk the front wheels to keep vehicle from moving if you forget to put it back into park befor you lower the vehicle. Rotat the differential until you see the bolt that holds the diff pin in place. Remove the bolt, 5/16 or 8 mm I believe. You can then remove the diff pin, do not rotate the diff with the diff pin removed! Push the axle in, you can then remove the C-clip that holds the axle to the side gear, it will usuall drop or just fall out. Pull the axle out of the rear diff and replace the seal. Put everything back together. Use black or grey RTV to reseal the diff cover making sure o clean up both surfaces as best you can. Put trans in park. Lower the vehicle. Remove the fill plug from the side of the differential and fill with gear lube until lube comes out the hole. Reinstall the plug and your good to go. How to remove a rear end axle and change a rear wheel seal?


Remove the rear diff cover (use a pan under there ...it's full of gear lube).Rotate the diff till you can see the pin that holds the spider gears in place. At one end of the pin, you will find either a roll pin or small bolt that retains it. Either drive the pin out or un bolt it (depends on what you have), then remove the pin. (careful when rotating carrier after it's out or, the spider gears will fall out. After it's out, DO NOT rotate the carrier or the same thing can happen. Dont turn the driveshaft or axle). Push the axle in and the "c" retainer on the axle will fall out. If not, help it a bit so it does. You can then remove the axle and access the seal.
After the seal is out, check to make sure there isn't any metal debris behind it. That indicates that not only the seal is bad but the bearing as well. Keep the new seal square with the axle tube so it goes in straight. Put some lube on the seal so it doesn't self destruct before lube reaches it. Remainder of the job is the reverse of removal. Don't forget to re-fill the diff before using it.

I have a 98 ford f150 4wd rear diff is howling bad under load and coast no noise at no load had bad rear axles and brgs even though i didnt think this would fix it i replaced them as i expected, no...


the bad bearings and axles probably caused damage or wear to the gears / pinion when under load the bearings keep the axles straight and keeps downward pressure from loads off the gears and gear bearings --look at gear mesh will probably be off very slightly and not from backlash shims but from ring gear bearings or pinion bearing damaged

Noise in rear differencial


Remove the rear cover and check for fine metal in the lube. Most internal differential problems are expensive to repair and require both experience and specific knowledge regarding using dial indicators etc. It is generally cheaper to replace the unit from drum to drum with a scrapyard unit where all that is necessary is to match the gear tooth (on ring and pinion gears) count to maintain the proper match to the front diff. This applies to all diff failures except outer axle bearings.

you need to pull the cover off the rear diff. remove the rear brake drums or rotors, remove the bolt that holds the pin in the rear end, remove the pin, remoce the c clips, pull the axles out. remove the seal. you can do this by using one ofthe axles to pry the seal out. install the new seal and reassemble. use rtv sealant to reseal rear diff and fill with about 3 - 3 1/2 qts gear lube-may take synthetic
