You really need a engine hoist and a oil pump. There will be a 2 plug or bolts on the box. 1 for filling and 1 to drain. It is painful to do and worth getting a mechanic

Can you change transmission fluid on a manual transmission if so how

'Transmission Fluid' in a manual transmission vehicle is called 'gearbox oil'. On the gearbox, there is a drain plug in the bottom somewhere and a fill plug on the side. You drain, clean the drain plug, replace the copper washer and put the drain plug back in. Fill the gearbox with oil until the oil starts to weep out of the filling hole. Replace the fill plug.

year make model change gearbox oil

Please include 'year make model' in all questions in this category. Thanks.

Manual gearboxes usually require a gearbox oil change every 30,000 to 50,000 mi (48,000 to 80,000 km). Automatic gearboxes usually have gear oil change intervals of between 60,000 to 100,000 mi (96,000 to 160,000 km). It's advisable that you change your gearbox oil filter at the same time as your oil.

What is the proper kind of transmission fluid for a transmission change?

Mitsubishi would love for you to use their oil, lololol. In reality, the proper oil is the oil rating needed. I usually use a good name brand oil and be sure it is that SPIII ATF I guess. I use Hypoid GL4 manual transmission oil which also can go into the rearend too if needed. If replacing the trany oil, be sure to dump the old oil and clean the magnet located on the drain bolt when you dump it. By the way, I use the oil I mentioned in an 86 Mitsubishi mighty max 5 speed. I use the 80-90wt. Might need to warm it up before pumping it into the tranny. Don't over or under fill the trany too.

I have hyundai sonnata 2006 4 cylinder. it has just completed 100000km.should i changet transmission oil now.

The transmission oil starts breaking down at 30000miles. Most car dealers change the transmission oil and filter at the second scheduled maintenance service at 60000miles. Changing the transmiosion oil is an insurance for the transmission. Make sure to use the specific transmission oil for your car.

What maintenace Does a 2003 Toy Rav4 manual transmission need?

The manual transmission oil, or gear box oil can't last forever. It is a good idea to replace every 60K miles with a new one. Just as with motor oil, and oil change is cheap insurance. Buy synthetic oil if you can.
The manual transmission oil change is a simple procedure, but can complicated and creates costly problems.
First remove the filling bolt. In some cases this is siezed, If the heating doesn't help, you don't want a stripped filler bolt, with an empty transmission. Use WD-40 and do not use extensive force.
If the bolt still won't budge. Stop. Lower the car and visit a shop for service.
After removing the filler bolt (upper), then remove the drain bolt at the bottom.
Replace the drain bolt, with a new one, normally has a magnet, and thread it by hand after with a wrench.
Fill the gearbox with oil using a gear oil / lube pump. Replace the filling bolt and process same as with draining bolt.
If you will change the gear box oil every 60K miles this is the best insurance for your manual transmission. DO NOT FORGET TO REPLACE FILLING AND DRAINING BOLTS WITH NEW ONE.
In rare cases a rusty bolt is siezed, almost rust welded in the transmission housing, so the transmission must be removed and taken to a machine shop.

Should I have the oil in transmission changed?

I would not go by the oil change company recommendation.
It's much better to go by the car manufacturer's recommendation. Look in your owner's manual for the recommended time/mileage to change the transmission oil and filter.

Should i change the transmission oil in my 2006 Ralliart lancer ? I am getting different answers ? the first mechanic told me that it should never be changed on models 2005 and above, a second one told me...

The transmission oil needs to be changed about every 30 to 35 thousand miles, the fluid and filter has to be changed and all the fluid needs to be changed. Over time the bands and clutches wear and it plugs the filter which starves the transmission for fluid thus causing overheating and damage to the transmission, All cars require this service as cars run metal is shaved off the parts and lap in to fit this material will get into the oil and cause premature failure of the transmission, just like not changing the oil in the engine. You don't change it and you destroy the engine. You should add Lucas Transmission oil conditioner as well, this softens the bands and clutches and helps the rubber seals stay pliable. I am a certified master mechanic for cars and trucks, and if you want the car to run for a long time you want to change the oil. Read your owners manual and it will have the service mileage for it. Not changing the oil can cost you $4000.00 so a $150.00 oil change is much cheaper. If you don't have an owner’s manual call your local dealer and ask them they will verify what I am telling you. Also the transmisson oi is ra threw the radiator and if the oil is getting hot it will make the ac to under perform it will not get as cool. Thanks for your time and if this helped you please rate me.
