Question about 2001 Dodge Dakota

Dodge 2001 Dakota Quad Cab - both front power windows inoperative. Rear windows operate fine.

Circuit breaker is fine. When removed the rear windows cease to operate. Glass moves freely in both windows. They both just suddenly and simulatneously stopped working electrically. Nothing to do with auto-down feature. It has to be a common wiring point that is common only to front windows.

  • pricew Jul 02, 2009

Your solution addresses a SINGLE power window failure, not multiple. As I mentioned, the fault is probably in a common point, like the lock-out switch that involves all/multiple windows. It is illogical to do a ground fault trace on a single inoperative window when there are others with the same sympton. The trace should start with a common point.

When I have the time, I will open the door panel and check the lock-out switch. Thanks for the inputs.

Check the circuit breaker in the junction block

The window glass must be free to slide up and down for the power window
motor to function properly. If the glass is not free to move up and
down, the motor will overload and trip the integral circuit breaker. To
determine if the glass is free, disconnect the regulator plate from the
glass. Then slide the window up and down by hand.

There is an alternate method to check if the glass is free. Position
the glass between the up and down stops. Then, shake the glass in the
door. Check that the glass can be moved slightly from side to side,
front to rear, and up and down. Then check that the glass is not bound
tight in the tracks. If the glass is free, proceed with the diagnosis
that follows. If the glass is not free Body for
the door window glass and hardware service and adjustment procedures

If the problem being diagnosed involves only the Auto-down feature for
the driver side front door window, but all of the power windows are
operational, replace the faulty Driver Door Module. For any other
single power window problem proceed with diagnosis as follows:

Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Unplug the wire
harness connector from the power window switch unit on the door with
the inoperative power window. Check for continuity between the ground
circuit cavity of the power window switch wire harness connector and a
good ground. There should be continuity. If OK, go to Step 2. If not
OK, repair the open circuit to the power window and door lock master
    switch as required.

Where is the thermostat housing located on the 2001 dodge Dakota quad cab truck?

The thermostat housing is on the front right side of the engine (passenger side) - you have to remove the lower radiator hose to access it... it is at lower right side (front) of engine.

2001 dodge dakota engine cooling system

Normally you only need to check the level in the tank under the "engine coolant only" cap, but if you had a leak and lost coolant, check that the level of coolant under the "never open when hot" cap (it should be the radiator cap) is full - up to the brim. if not, fill it to overflowing, then cap it, fill the tank to its level, start the truck, let it reach operating temperature, let it cool down again, check the level in the radiator. if it's still fine, you need not worry about it again, just check the level in the tank daily.
