This is a common problem on 2000 Maxima's but Nissan never recalled the ignition coils. There are 6 ignition coils, one on top of each cylinder where the wires go. The front and back are different designs. Nissan dealers will not replace just one, they will tell you all need to be replaced for about $700. You can purchase only one at any auto supply store and replace yourself if you know which one is misfiring.
