Question about 2001 Ford Escape

Open Question

2005 Ford Escape - Key stuck in ignition, wheel lock not engaging. Reverse inconsistency in that the key will occasionally come out, and the wheel lock will engage. I'm elderly and with serious handicap. Only $7K from disability so no money to live or fix anything. Social worker tells me is my problem I get $7K. If I waited to 65 to be disabled, would have $27K like everyone else. Refuses to discuss further. Am expected to fix all myself. Then hangs up. I'm over 70, can't walk, constant hard pain. Work is impossible. I'm experienced mechanic, but hope you have an easy fix as I can't move very much, have no money. Many thanks, much appreciated!

it might be the shift lock module, could also be brake position switch on brake pedal support info External Controls The transaxle external control system consists of the following components: shift cable and bracket park range switch (part of gearshift lever) shift lock actuator gearshift lever The gearshift lever controls the transaxle gear selection through the shift cable. The cable detent and gearshift lever position locking is controlled by the gearshift lever knob. Shift Interlock System The shift interlock system prevents the gearshift lever from being moved out of the PARK (P) position. The ignition switch must be in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed to move the gearshift lever out of the PARK (P) position. The brake pedal position is detected by the brake pedal position (BPP) switch. The manual override button will mechanically bypass the electronic portion of the shift interlock system and allow the gearshift lever to be moved out of the PARK (P) position. The manual override button is part of the gearshift lever assembly. SOURCE: 2005 ford taurus. Remote entry wont work theft light keeps blinking when key is engaged

HI, I'm reading your problem,
Let me explain something about your car.

2005 Ford Taurus, The key on that car has Chip inside of the key and receiver on the ignition switch,
Check if the key you are trying to use is Black and has a plastic head.
If not you need a key with that characteristics.
But if you have the right key, Remenber if you had drop on the floor, or hit with something,
Because some times they come damaged, with insignificat thins.
Remenber if you left the key close to a magnets like speakers.

If nothing aply at your case, you need to call a place Aloha Smith, they have the computer to program or reprogarm your key. IF not you can't start your car.

OK.. I hope this information work for you.

Thank's for submit yous question on fixya.com

SOURCE: Ford F150 Pickup 2005 power doors unlock but will not lock

I had almost the identical problem on my 2005 F150 FX4 Extended cab last weekend. The power door locks would not lock using the keypad, remotes, or door buttons. Almost all other functions worked correctly. The doors unlocked, the radio delay functioned, and the interior lights dimmed. When I used the remote the horn would beep twice indicating that a door was open even there was no message on the message center that a door was open. When I used the keypad or remote, I could hear a soft click from behind the seat. I think it was coming from the body security module or body security module - whatever Ford is calling it this year. I pulled the fuse for the Power Door Locks(BSM). As I removed it, I heard a soft click - sort of like a relay resetting. It may have come from the VSM/BSM. It may have possibly been a stuck actuator releasing. I don't think so. It wasn't that load. In any case, everything is functioning correctly now.

SOURCE: 2005 ford f-150...4 wheel drive will not

Operationally vacuum holds the IWE ( Integrated Wheel Ends ) out, and once vac is removed the spring engages the IWE.

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

- If the front drive shaft does not turn :
Shut of the truck ( still jacked up, and supported ) remove the vac lines from the IWE. The spring should push the gears in, without the vac line on.
Check the vent line ( tube that is routed into the engine compartment with nothing attached to it ), for blockages.
If the vent line is clear, and with the vac lines off the IWE should be engaged ( both front wheels locked ).
If they lock, the problem is with the IWE solenoid not shutting off vacuum to the IWEs. There is a TSB on the 2004-2006 IWE solenoids, a newer revision has been made, and used from 2007 and newer MYs.

Here is a block diagram of the IWE system

The steering wheel lock may be putting pressure on the lock mechanism. Try turning the steering wheel a little either way as you turn the ignition key.

Ignition

If you are unable to turn the steering wheel then you have engaged your anti theft system. To dis-engage, depress the brake fully, turn the wheel all the way in the direction that it gives, and apply pressure to the key and it should dis-engage the anti theft system. If you can turn the wheel, than try the post above.
