How many miles should a driver go between oil changes?

Some people say 3k, some say 5k, some say farther. Also what are the pros & Cons of going to a local jiffylub versus a dealership. What do you recommend doing if there is a 2week delay at the dealership and I need service faster than that?

Since the oil is more refined and filters are better these days (I would recommend Fram 3X or 6X filters), I go 5000 miles between changes. If your 2007 is up in the 80K-90K mileage range, you might want to look at the high-mileage oil as a substitute. You might also want to look at synthetic oil, which can stay in your engine even longer. As far as Jiffy lube or the dealership, not having used either, my best guess would be the Jiffy lube is faster and cheaper, but the dealership probably has better trained people doing the work and will check your car to make sure nothing else is wrong, while you are there.

3000 miles is just a big money earner for these quick oil change places. Fact is that they don't make any money off you with an oil change, thats why they try to push you into fuel injection services, transmission flushes and the like . Change your oil every 5000 miles and you will be ok . The only advantage in going to the dealer is that they will fit the correct filter and know the correct grade of oil to use unlike the generic 5W-30 that most places use here in Florida

I have a 1999 Chevy blazer 4wd with almost 194,000 miles. What oil is recommended for high mileage?

Well a lot of motor oil brands will have a high milage formula, I prefer synthetic oil for my engine but at 194k miles if you haven't used synthetic oil for the life of the engine it's kind of pointless to start using it now. On that model I believe the recommend change time for the oil is every 5k miles, I would start doing it at every 3k and not worry about synthetic.

How often do I really need to change the oil?

If you're ambitious, changing every 3500 miles will only help your engine last that much longer.

How many miles until oil change, 3 K or 6 K

If you drive mostly in city type situations, then it's 3K. if you do mostly hi-way 25+miles each way every day then it can go 5k. I wouldn't go more then that unless you use synthetic oil.

I have a 2003 Jetta TDI with 90k. Until recently I have consistently gotten 46-48 mpg. Over the past 3 months the mpg has been decreasing. The current mpg is about 30. I change the oil every 3k...

don't know about the MPG it could be a lot of things. I have a 2001 Jetta TDI. You should NEVER change the oil at 3K miles. VW recommends 10K miles for a reason. The Synthetic oil has additives to remove varnish and it does that but it needs some time to replace the varnish and properly protect sensitive engine parts. 3K is oil changes are not a good thing for a TDI......Just use the right oil and change at 10K

The oil change pre set is 5000 miles is this correct

Yes it is. On your newer vehicles the factory has set your oil change light to come on at 5k, due to the technology in semi synthetic oils. Mazda uses a semi senthetic oil from the factory. I still recommend changing your oil every 3k. You may also consult your owners manual for the recommended service interval and adhere to it. As long as you adhere to manufacturer recommendations and keep your oil change reciepts, you should be ok if anything were to happen.

HOW OFTEN WOULD YOU NEED A OIL CHANGE ON A ASTRA 1.8 PETROL,KEEP GETTING A KNOCKING SOUND FROM ENGINE WHEN WE PUT CLUTCH DOWN ANY IDEAS CHEERS

change oil every 3K-5K miles. Check your transmission fluid. if it is dark instead of bright ready you need to flush and fill the transmission. That could help with the knocking. If it only happens when the clutch is depressed then that leads me to believe you have a possible transmission problem brewing.

Oil change

I would contact a dealer and ask them. But also you might just use the same oil so you don't chance it....
