Question about Honda Pilot

4 Answers

I recently had my windshield replaced (with factory glass) and now find the driver's side wiper to be crooked. I say this because it does not line up parallel to the drivers edge of the window at mid-wipe. In fact, it comes very close to the windshield edge on the bottom but is quite far away on top. The wiper also does not pick up water very well resulting in a smear from the driver's edge inward. This vehicle is new (only owned for 2 months) and I remember a much cleaner and straighter wiper operation prior to the windshield replacement. Nothing on the wiper arm appears physically damaged or bent so I'm wondering if an adjustment can be made to straighten its path. It's worth noting that the passenger side wiper looks perfectly aligned and catches all water. Thanks!

The last expert, PCMania did not answer my question. Is alignment of the wipers adjustable on a 2009 Honda Pilot?

  • jfinman Jul 02, 2009

How do I make this adjustment? Do I loosen the wiper nut, move the arm and tighten it again? Thanks for your help.

If this is a new vehicle and you think the wiper is where it was when purchased this may be a warranty issue. Did the dealer replace your glass?

To align the wipers, open the wiper nut protective cover, untighten the wiper nut (13 or 14 mm spaner required). There is no need to remove the nut completely Losen the wiper from it's schaft. Turn all the wiper until the wiper head is in paralel with the bottom of the windshield. secure the nut back in place and close the nut cover. Give it a try. Spill some water on the windshield ant switch on the wipers. If all the water is removed from wiper's way then it's fine, otherwise replace the wiper head with new one.

Tips & Tricks: If wiper nut is very tight don't use brute force to untighten it. Spray some WD-40 and two minutes later it will come off easily. Otherwise spill some Regular CocaCola on the nut and wait for 3-4 minutes. Coke will loosen the nut as well as WD-40. On thins occasion only regular cocacola should be used, as I've never tried to use diet or zero so don't know if it really works.

Best of luck

The only adjustment is to remove the arm and reposistion it so many splines on way or the other. It was most likely taken off during the windshield replacment and reset out of time, a few splines.

Wipers dont work

This is a complex wiper system . Here are all the components involved !
The Wiper/Washer System consists of the following components:
?€¢
Windshield wiper/washer switch

?€¢
Body control module (BCM)

?€¢
Wiper 1 relay

?€¢
Wiper 2 relay

?€¢
Wiper diode

?€¢
Windshield wiper motor

?€¢
Windshield washer pump

?€¢
Windshield washer nozzles

?€¢
Windshield washer solvent container

?€¢
Windshield wiper arm and blade assemblies

?€¢
Windshield wiper transmission

?€¢
WIPER/SW 10A fuse

?€¢
WIPER 25A fuse

Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) controls the wiper motor based on input from the windshield wiper washer switch. The BCM monitors the wiper washer switch through three separate signal circuits and a ground circuit. The windshield wiper switch high signal circuit is used to determine high speed wiper operation, the windshield wiper switch low signal is used to determine low speed, intermittent, and mist operation through the use of a resistor ladder, and windshield washer switch signal circuit is used to determine washer operation. The windshield wiper motor park operation is controlled by the BCM. The BCM recieves an input from the park switch to determine wiper blade position. When the wiper blades are at the bottom of the windshield glass in park position the wiper park switch will open and the circuit will be pulled up to B+ by the BCM. The park signal will be pulled to ground by the wiper motor park switch while the wiper blades are not in the park position.
The BCM controls the windshield wiper motor through two output controls, controlling two relays which determine the desired wiper speed, high or low
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
The body control module (BCM) monitors the voltage on the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit for diagnostic purposes. If the circuit is shorted to voltage while the driver is commanded OFF, the BCM will store DTC B3715. If the circuit is shorted to ground while the driver is commanded ON, the BCM will store DTC B3715. Refer to DTC B3715.
It would be best to have a factory scan tool to diagnose this problem . it would make it easier anyway .

2000 grand marquis driver's side windshield wiper lifts off windshield

Hello Steve,

From your post, "Finally had enough and stuffed a small block of wood between the driver's side bottom of the molded plastic linkage frame enough to lift the whole thing enough to put a moderate amount of pressure behind the wiper blade..", it sounds like this box is warped or somehow out of alignment. Is it possible for you to buy this box from a wrecking yard? Has you car ever been in a collision? If so the frame may have so un-repaired buckling resulting in the misalignment.

Windshield wipers groan after recent replacement of windshield. 2009 chevy malibu

1. It's hard to know what you mean by groan. Is there a problem with the wiper motor or is it just noise from the wipers riding over the new glass?
I hope the wiper mechanism was not damaged during installation of the new glass.

2. I will assume it's just the wipers on the glass. If that is the case you should first try:

a. Clean the glass with a strong glass cleaner and water and flush well.
Dry off with paper towel/ Do this a couple of times.

b. Carefully check that there is no damage to the wiper arms cause by the windscreen replacement people.

c. Replace the wiper rubbers with new inserts. Make sure you get the correct item for your vehicle.

3. If you are still getting the "groan" you will need to investigate problems with the wiper mechanism/motor. Your vehicle should still be under its new car warranty. However any damage caused by the windscreen people cannot be claimed on warranty of course.

My 2000 ford crown victoria's driver side windshield wiper will not stay tightly on the windsheild when i get over 40 it gets worse until it does not wipe at all. Tried replaced the blade nothing, the arm...

I usually start with the blade as well, the arm can be bent in a method to make it arch high higher in the middle of the arm - forcing more downward pressure onto the windshield. The real problem however, could be your windshield. Not that I believe that all Ford vehicles should have the "Carlite" stamp on the glass, there are other good brands of glass. But, some glass manufacturers have poor quality control and their glass molds produce some parts with flat spots, low spots, high spots and many other distortions in the glass. Does your windshield have a Carlite stamp at the lower part of the windshield? If you can't adjust the wiper to work, you may want to consider the glass instead.

Front Windshield

Take it to a glass shop and ask them to examine the windshield, they will not charge you for this, if the glass is defective due to a manufactured in defect try the dealer, or call the hot line listed in your owners manual, if you are given the run around by the dealer go over there head and ask the factory representative to inspect the window defect, make sure you tell them it is a safety issue, if all that comes to naught, try your insurance company, they are pretty good about replacing windshields over issues like this, but I think your best bet is the factory rep or the dealer.
