Question about 1995 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

95 Deville - Low Refridgerant/AC Comp. off

How do I find out if I am low on freon as opposed to other problems like the AC sensors? (BTW, where are the AC sensors?)

Also, does the 95 Deville (4.9L engine) use the newer or old (hard to find) freon?

Thanks!

To diagnose problems, an A/C manifold gauge set is needed to read high and low side pressure readings. Avoid adding refrigerant with a simple charging kit like the ones sold at parts stores. Don’t add any stop leak, this can cause problems in the compressor, expansion valve or condenser.
Keep in mind that using an A/C gauge set and seeing BOTH high and low side readings can help in diagnosing the problem when you know what to look for. First, on a 134A system the high and low side service ports are different sizes. AC gauge sets have color coded hoses, the blue color coded hose has a connection that fits on the low side service port and the red hose has a connection that will only fit onto the high side. The yellow hose won’t hook up to anything if just checking the readings; it can be used to connect to a vacuum pump or attached to a refrigerant can or tank.

Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) - Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI
Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s - Ranges from 25-35 PSI - Note that on many Chrysler products a normal reading on the low side may be 15-25 PSI
Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI

Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better!  Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.

Both low and high side readings are lower than normal, this indicates a cars AC system is low on refrigerant and is under-charged.
If both low and high side readings are too high, this indicates an overcharged system - too much refrigerant. This also can indicate that the condenser fan is not working, is too slow or the car is overheating and heat is transferring from the radiator to the condenser.

Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted be glad to answer any question you may have. And yes the A/C system on your car uses R143a and there is a A/C pressure switch along the low pressure line or on the accumulator, it looks like a oil pressure sensor with a two wire lead cliped on it.

My guess is you are low on freon. I see you say this is not the problem. Every thing else checks out - it is worth checking the freon. Don't try to run it until you have it checked to prevent damaging your AC system.

Low ac refrig is on center console should i add freon or could it be a compressor problem.

You have a leak somewhere in the ac system. I'd add some freon for now, but you need to get the leak fixed eventually. Just go get a can of freon and follow the directions. It's really easy

93 cadillac deville. ac blowing hot. only one pound of freon but compressor wont kick on to allow for charging. where is the relay for the compressor, or what am i missing here? thanks

There is a sensor inline on one of the hoses or on the ac evaporator that should have 2 wires. Unplug the sensor and take a short piece of wire and make a U shape with it and plug it into both ends to complete the circuit on the wired side not the sensor. This will trick the AC pump to turn on. You will also be adding the can or two of freon. If the pump does not turn on after tricking it there may be a problem with the pump or a problem with wiring or the temp control.

My ac wont work

Must be Air-Condition System Lines/ Hoses leaking R12 Freon (gas).

MAYBE THE PULLY HUB BEARINGS FAILED OR
DUE TO VERY LOW R12 FREON (GAS ) will not work.
Because there is a switch in the receiver/dryer prevent AC from working when low R12 Freon present, to protect the system & compressor damages.

You must fix the leaks, before recharging it.

They must **** the old (residue) gases from the system & lines / hoses...... & stay in the vacuum pump 30 minutes to proof no more leaks.

Recharge some oil for the old type R12 Freon gas.

Before recharge it to 62-67 psi R12 Freon

See the web site like www.youtube.com/video site to see How they service & repair air-condition system?
Put the question to their search window.

This is the question u should.

Ac compressor will not come on 1997 cadillac deville

either a blown fuse or the freon is low, also a bad sensor could cause it unsure if it is r-12 or 134a. should have a sticker under the hood. if it uses r12 then it probally will have to go in for service.

If you have a low freon warning you will need to unhook the battery to reset the system before the compressor will run.
