If you haven't started or started and not done, STOP. I have worked on hundreds of the 3.1 and 3.4 engines. Never once have I replaced a timing chain. If a mechanic told you it was a timing chain, find another mechanic. JMO, but the engine doesn't last long enough for the timing parts to go bad.

SOURCE: I need a diagram to set the time on the timing chains of a 1997 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L, 4 cylinder, 3RZ. It is out of time. I need a diagram on how to time the timing chains. Markings needed to set time.

Needing a timingbelt diagram 1997 Altima Nissan GXE L4-2.4L

It's a timing chain not a belt.

This diagram shows how to position the lower timing chain so that the mating marks line up.

Lower timing chain tensioner and timing chain guide positioning.

Double check the mating mark alignment of the upper timing chain and idler sprocket.

Make sure that the upper timing chain and camshaft sprocket mating marks align.

It's a timing chain not a belt.

This diagram shows how to position the lower timing chain so that the mating marks line up.

Here are the diagrams you requested.

You want to wipe off the links of the lower timing chain next to the timing marks on the sprocket and put paint marks on the timing chain matching them with the timing marks on the idler sprocket and crankshaft sprocket.

Timing chain mark diagram for a 94 grand am????

Haynes lists the entire procedure for setting the position of the cams etc. Positioning of these is critical...If off by even a slight amount the valves WILL strike the pistons and destroy the engine. DO NOT use any parts made by SA Gear...They have no quality control and will deny any claim made against them. Make sure that the chain guides are in good condition and that the chain tensioner is operating properly.
