Question about 1995 Saturn Sl

2 Answers

I have a 1995 Saturn SL1, the clutch squeaks everytime it is pressed in. It is also getting harder to push in. Gears are still shifting smoothly and the master does not seem to be leaking. I have sprayed WD40 at the pedal but it only seems to help a little. Any thoughts? is there a way I can bleed this clutch?

Ours started squeaking and then the gearshift slipped into oblivion. Take thee to a dealer....at least my baby and I were close to home when the gear shift stopped working.

Just an opinion, I don't know a lot about Saturns but I'd say your throwout bearing is starting to go bad. Bleeding won't help that, they have to be replaced. If there is any linkage between the slave cylinder and the trans, spray that with your WD-40, it may help for a while.

1995 Saturn SL1 Manual Transmission

Sounds like the friction surface of the clutch disc is slipping. You would have to install a new clutch (clutch disc, pressure plate, and clutch release bearing), and have the flywheel surface cut and polished back to perfect smooth by a shop.
Manual transmission gears don't slip like automatics. And lack of fluid in the transaxle or the hydraulic clutch system won't cause this either.

20004 Saturn i am having shifting problems will not go into gear smoothly,if at all . 5th gear in nearly impossible to find with out grinding . Is it the shifter ,clutch or clutch pedal not engaging?

Possible causes are: The clutch is going out, the hydraulic clutch system is low on fluid, or the transmission input shaft is binding on the pilot bearing. 1. Is the pedal firm and does it feel like it used to? (low fluid). 2. Once in gear and moving push on clutch and notice when the transmission disengages. If it does not disengage until the pedal is almost at the top then the clutch is getting thin and will need replacing. 3. With vehicle on a smooth flat surface, depress clutch and try to shift into any and all gears. Notice if vehicle tries to lurch forward as shifter goes into gear. This may be a subtle lurch but should be noticeable. This checks for a binding pilot bushing. Let me know what you find. Thanks and please rate.

I have a 1997 Saturn SL1 with an automatic transmission. The car will not operate in reverse. The car appears to operate well in forward gears shifts smoothly.

Common problem with several causes. The neutral safety switch could be bad, will need some knowledge and a scan tool to diagnose. Also valve body could be bad , will need to have a professional look at it most likely.

What years are interchangeable for a manual 5speed transmission in a 1999 saturn sl1?

96-99 SL1, SC1, SW1. Avoid the 2 models, they are DOHC and have different gear ratios

Hard shift into any gear after clutch pressure loss No previous problem with shifting prior to this , with good clutch pressure and smooth shifting into all gears.

clutch plate is worn out cluch is good just needs cluch plate but you might as well buy the clutch kit and change it all to avoid future problems

Cold weather Good Shifting,Warmer shifting gears gets harder

it may have a hydraulic clutch, check the fluid level in it . Its just like your master cylinder it sits right beside it. if the fluid level is low fill it then maybe you have to bleed the air out

1997 sL1 Saturn manual transmission hard to change gears

The dipstick is behind the battery, below the master brake cylinder and is not the clutch reservoir. It has a red flip top handle instead of a ring like most dipsticks. It was hard for me to find due to engine grease. I had the same problem and was able to see that I was low on fluid (only a little) and adding fluid helped the problem.
