Im chasing new bolts to reconnect my manifold to the block/engine. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

If it is a l20b engine it is about a m7 or m8 or m10 with a 12mm head about 28mm long or longer with a lock washer and the big washer that holds the exhaust and intake be careful the head is aluminum so it wont handle a heavy torquing

Instructions

1. Removal

Unscrew the bolt that holds the negative connection to the Impala's battery. Set this bolt aside for later use.

Remove the engine cover to access the intake manifold and manifold gasket. Disconnect the throttle body inlet duct from the engine.

Twist off the radiator cap to allow draining of the coolant to flow more smoothly. Place an empty container beneath the radiator's drain plug, and remove this plug. Allow all of the engine coolant to drain into the empty container. Replace the drain plug once you are finished.

Tag all of the electrical wiring and hoses before removing so that reconnection is precise to factory settings. Remove these parts, individually, from the intake manifold.

Loosen the bolts that hold the intake manifold to the Impala's engine block. Lift the intake manifold from the block once all bolts have been completely removed.

Use the flat-head screwdriver to pry the old intake manifold gasket from the engine block. Discard this part once you have removed it.

Clean the engine block thoroughly with the engine degreaser and linen cloth. If necessary, use a gasket scraper to remove excess buildup and grime.

2. Installation

  • Coat the top and bottom of the new intake manifold gasket with a chemical sealer so that it bonds to the engine block securely. Position this new manifold gasket so that it lines up perfectly with the cylinder ports of the Impala's engine block.

Place the old intake manifold on top of the newly-installed manifold gasket until it aligns with all of the holes of the cylinder flanges and manifold gasket.

Attach all of the bolts with your hand to the manifold. Once all bolts have been positioned, use a torque wrench and apply 15 foot-pounds of pressure to the bolts to secure the manifold into place.

Reconnect all of the necessary hoses and electrical wiring to the intake. Pour the engine coolant back into the radiator.

Reattach the engine cover on top of the intake manifold and engine block. Start the Impala's engine and check for any leaks around the new intake manifold gasket.

Chevrolet 4.3L intake manifold installation assist


When installing an new intake manifold gasket it is necessary to carefully align the manifold while setting it. This is due to the fact that silicone is used on each end and it is important to not move the manifold when setting it. To assist in a perfect setting, go to a hardware store and purchase a couple or more bolts of the same thread pitch as the manifold bolts. Cut the hex heads off the bolts and hand screw the headless bolts into several places in the block. Make sure the bolts are long enough to be useful and easily removed when the manifold is set. Set the manifold straight down. Set a few factory bolts and then remove the threaded pins used to align. Best to use new factory bolts when replacing a manifold. Finish by setting all bolts and torquing in correct pattern to correct torque.

Where is the thermostat located in the 06 stratus


  • Find the location where the upper radiator hose connects to the intake manifold of the engine by tracing it from the radiator to thermostat intake housing bolted to the intake.
  • 2 Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat intake housing by loosening the band clamp that secures it into place. With the clamp loosened, pull the hose off the housing.
  • 3 Remove the two bolts that secure the housing to the intake manifold and then lift the housing off the intake.
  • 4 Lift the thermostat out of the intake manifold and place the new thermostat into the hole. The end of the thermostat with the pin protruding from it sticks out of the intake manifold.
  • 5 Lift the thermostat intake housing gasket off the intake manifold and place the new one onto the intake manifold.
  • 6 Place the thermostat intake housing onto the intake manifold and bolt it into place. Reconnect the hose using the band clamp.
  • Six-Cylinder Engines
  • 1 Drive the Dodge onto a set of front-end ramps and secure the parking break. Allow adequate time for the radiator fluid to cool down. Thirty minutes is usually adequate.
  • 2 Loosen the petcock on the lower right hand side of the radiator and drain all of the radiator fluid into a drain pan. Close the petcock once drained.
  • 3 Trace the lower radiator hose to the location where the hose connects to the engine block. The metal housing the hose connects to is the lower thermostat outlet. Remove the hose from the outlet by loosening the band clamp and then by pulling the hose off the outlet. Be careful--some fluid will drain from the hose.
  • 4 Remove the two bolts that secure the thermostat outlet to the engine block and pull the thermostat outlet off the block.
  • 5 Discard the O-ring inside the bottom edge of the thermostat outlet and place a new one into the outlet.
  • 6 Pull the thermostat out of the engine block and replace it with a new one. The end with the pin protruding from it sticks out of the engine block.
  • 7 Place the thermostat outlet onto the engine block and secure it into place. Reattach the lower radiator hose with the band clamp.
  • 8 Open the radiator filler cap located on top of the radiator and fill the radiator with the fluid previously drained from the system.

    You need a heli-coil kit. Your local parts store should be able to help you find the proper size if you take the bolt with you. Follow the directions carefully and buy a new bolt for the manifold.

    How to Replace the Water Pump in a Pontiac Grand Am The water pump is the heart of the Pontiac grand am's cooling system, circulating the coolant. A faulty water pump can cause some serious damage to the engine of your Pontiac Grand Am. To prolong the life of your vehicle's engine, make sure to change out a bad water pump.
    2.2L Grand Am Engine Disconnect the negative battery cables before you begin.Place a drain pan underneath the radiator. When the engine is cool, drain the cooling system from the radiator into the pan.Elevate the vehicle and remove the right front wheel, the splash shield, the water pump sprocket access plate and remove the exhaust manifold if your vehicle has an n automatic trans-axle.Use the water pump sprocket holding tool (Tool Part Number J 43651) and attach it to the sprocket with access plate bolts, securing the tool to the front cover of the engine.Remove the following bolts to remove the water pump: the three bolts attaching the pump to the engine block, the bolt to the engine front cover, the bolts to the sprocket and the bolt attaching the thermostat housing to the pump.Remove the old pump and install the new one, aligning the water pump sprocket to the hub with a threaded stud.Reinsert the engine cover bolt to the block to the pump, tightening the bolt to 15 foot pounds (20 Nm). Tighten two of the water pump sprocket bolts to the water pump by hand.Take out the threaded stud that was used to align the water pump sprocket to the hub and attach the last bolt to the sprocket to the pump, tightening all three to 89 foot pounds (10 Nm).Remove the water pump sprocket holding tool and attach the timing cover to the water pump sprocket access plate, tightening the bolts to 89 foot pounds (10 Nm).Reattach the splash shield, the right front wheel and the exhaust manifold if applicable.Refill the engine's cooling system with coolant and reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the car and check for leaks when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
    2.4L Grand Am Engine Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain out the coolant from the cooling system when the engine is cool.Disconnect the electrical connector to the oxygen sensor and remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.Remove the following bolts and studs: the coolant inlet housing bolt connecting the exhaust manifold, the bolt to the exhaust manifold to the brace, the studs to the manifold to exhaust pipe and the bolt to the coolant inlet housing to water pump.Disconnect the following parts from each other: the exhaust manifold from the exhaust pipe by pulling the pipe downward, the oil pan from the coolant inlet pipe, the camshaft housing from the brake vacuum pipe, the cylinder head from the exhaust manifold, the heater outlet pipe from the heater hose and the timing chain cover from the tensioner.Loosen and remove the water pump bolts to the engine and the bolts from the pump to the timing chain. Remove the water pump with the cover assembly and remove the cover from the pump.Install the new pump with new gaskets. Replace the cover and tighten the bolts by hand. Attach the pump to the engine and tighten these bolts by hand.Attach the pump to the timing chain housing nuts and the coolant inlet pipe to the cover. Also tighten these by hand.Torque all bolts to the following specifications after all bolts have been inserted and hand tightened: the chain housing nuts to the pump assembly to 19 foot pounds (26 Nm), the water pump assembly to the cover to 124 foot pounds (14 Nm), and the water pump cover to the coolant inlet pipe assembly to 124 foot pounds (14 Nm).Reattach the cylinder head and the exhaust manifold, tightening the nuts to 11 foot pounds (15 Nm), the coolant inlet pipe to the oil pan, tightening the nuts to 19 foot pounds (25 Nm), and reattach the timing chain tensioner, tightening the bolts to 89 foot pounds (10 Nm).Reconnect the camshaft housing and the brake vacuum pipe and reattach the front cover, tightening the bolts to 106 foot pounds (12 Nm).Reattach the exhaust pipe and the manifold, tightening the bolts to 26 foot pounds (35 Nm), the exhaust manifold to the brace, tightening the bolts to 41 foot pounds (56 Nm) and the nuts to 19 foot pounds (26 Nm), the manifold to the exhaust pipe, tightening the nuts to 26 foot pounds (35 Nm), the heater pipe to the heater hose and reattach the exhaust manifold heat shield, tightening the bolts to 124 inch pounds (14 Nm).Reconnect the electrical connector to the oxygen sensor and the negative battery cable.     How do you take off a intake manifold


    This is for the 4.6L motor...I'll post for the 5.0L and 5.8L....you didn't post your engine size so please pick the applicable motor:

    4.6L Engine
    CAUTION Fuel injection systems remain under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.

    1. If equipped with air suspension, the air suspension switch, located on the right-hand side of the luggage compartment, must be turned to the OFF position before raising the vehicle.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    3. Drain the engine cooling system.
    4. Relieve the fuel system pressure as follows:
      1. Remove the fuel tank fill cap to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank.
      2. Remove the cap from the Schrader valve located on the fuel injection supply manifold.
      3. Attach Fuel Pressure Gauge T80L-9974-B or equivalent, to the Schrader valve and drain the fuel through the drain tube into a suitable container.
      4. After the fuel system pressure is relieved, remove the fuel pressure gauge and install the cap on the Schrader valve. Secure the fuel tank fill cap.
    5. Disconnect the fuel supply and return lines.
    6. Remove the windshield wiper governor (module).
    7. Remove the engine air cleaner outlet tube.
    8. Release the drive belt tensioner and remove the accessory drive belt.
    9. Tag and disconnect the ignition wires from the spark plugs. Disconnect the ignition wire brackets from the cylinder head cover studs.
    10. Disconnect the wiring from both ignition coils and the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor. Tag and disconnect all ignition wires from both ignition coils. Remove 2 bolts retaining the ignition wire bracket to the ignition coil brackets and remove the ignition wire assembly.
    11. Disconnect the alternator wiring harness from the junction block at the fender apron and alternator. Remove the bolts retaining the alternator brace to the intake manifold and the alternator to the cylinder block and remove the alternator.
    12. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    13. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor and power steering control valve actuator wiring and position the wiring harness out of the way.
    14. Disconnect the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube from the right-hand exhaust manifold.
    15. Lower the vehicle.
    16. Remove and detach the engine/transmission harness connector from the retaining bracket on the power brake booster.
    17. Detach the A/C compressor clutch, Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and the canister purge solenoid wiring connectors.
    18. Remove the PCV valve from the cylinder head cover and disconnect the canister purge vent hose from the PCV valve.
    19. Disconnect the accelerator and cruise control cables from the throttle body. Remove the accelerator cable bracket from the intake manifold and position out of the way.
    20. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle body adapter port.
    21. Disconnect both Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S) and the heater water hose.
    22. Remove 2 bolts retaining the thermostat housing to the intake manifold and position the upper hose and thermostat housing out of the way.
    The 2 thermostat housing bolts are also used to retain the intake manifold.
    1. Remove 9 bolts retaining the intake manifold to the cylinder heads and remove the intake manifold. Remove and discard the gaskets.
    2. If replacing the intake manifold, swap over the necessary parts.
    To install:
    1. Clean all gasket mating surfaces.
    2. Position new intake manifold gaskets on the cylinder heads. Make sure the alignment tabs on the gaskets are aligned with the holes in the cylinder heads.
    3. Install the intake manifold and 9 retaining bolts. Hand tighten the right-rear bolt (viewed from the front of the engine) before final tightening, then torque the bolts, in sequence, to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
    4. Inspect and if necessary, replace the O-ring seal on the thermostat housing. Position the housing and upper hose and install 2 retaining bolts. Torque to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
    5. Reconnect the heater water hose.
    6. Reconnect both HO2S wiring connectors.
    7. Reconnect the vacuum hose to the throttle body adapter vacuum port.
    8. Install the accelerator cable bracket on the intake manifold and connect the accelerator and cruise control cables to the throttle body.
    9. Install the PCV valve in the cylinder head cover and connect the canister purge solenoid vent hose. Reconnect the A/C compressor clutch, CKP sensor and canister purge solenoid wiring connectors.
    10. Reconnect the engine/transmission harness connector. Install the connector on the retaining bracket on the power brake booster.
    11. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    12. Reconnect the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube to the right-hand exhaust manifold. Torque the tube nut to 26-33 ft. lbs. (35-45 Nm).
    13. Reconnect the power steering control valve actuator and the oil pressure sensor wiring connectors.
    14. Lower the vehicle.
    15. Position the alternator and install 2 retaining bolts. Torque to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm). Install 2 bolts retaining the alternator brace to the intake manifold and torque to 71-106 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm).
    16. Reconnect the alternator wiring harness to the alternator, right-hand fender apron and junction block.
    17. Position the ignition wire assembly on the engine and install 2 bolts retaining the ignition wire bracket to the ignition coil brackets. Torque the bolts to 71-106 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm).
    18. Reconnect the ignition wires to the ignition coils in their proper positions. Reconnect the ignition wires to the spark plugs.
    19. Reconnect the ignition wire brackets on the cylinder head cover studs. Reconnect the wiring connectors to both ignition coils and the CMP sensor.
    20. Install the accessory drive belt.
    21. Install the engine air cleaner outlet tube.
    22. Install the windshield wiper governor.
    23. Reconnect the fuel supply and return lines.
    24. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system.
    25. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
    26. If equipped with air suspension, turn the air suspension switch to the ON position.
    27. Start the engine and check for leaks.
    28. Road test the vehicle and check for proper operation.

    Note, removing the upper intake manifold is not necessary when removing lower intake manifold, they are removed as an assembly.
    Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner assembly and inlet duct. Mark and remove distributor. Remove upper radiator hose at thermostat housing. Disconnect accelerator and cruise control cables. Remove heater hoses from intake manifold. Remove EGR pipe.
    Disconnect fuel lines at rear of engine. Remove AC compressor and set aside(leave hoses connected). Remove canister purge solenoid. Disconnect theSCPI injector, ignition coil, Ignition Control Module, generator,IAC motor, TP sensor, O2 sensor, Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve and Engine Coolant Temperature sensor wiring harness connectors. Remove PCV valve and hose. Remove lower intake manifold bolts. Remove lower intake manifold.
    Installation.
    Always use New O-rings when reconnecting fuel lines at rear of engine. Apply a bead of RTV silicone sealer along the front and rear sealing surfaces of the block.See Fig.6. Install new gaskets and intake manifold on block while RTV is still wet to the touch. Use Threadlock 12345382 or equivalent to lower intake manifold bolts. Tighten lower intake manifold bolts in sequence to specification table. See fig. 7. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.f52665d.gifabc2b5f.gif

    Intake manifold gasket / replace


    3.8L Engine

    NOTE The 3.8L (VIN K) non-supercharged engine uses a two-piece intake manifold consisting of an upper air plenum which mounts the throttle body and a lower intake manifold assembly which houses the fuel injectors. The 3.8L (VIN 1) supercharged engine uses a similar lower intake manifold. The supercharger serves as the upper manifold.
    Lower Manifold

    NOTE Two bolts which fasten the lower intake manifold to the cylinder head are accessible only after the upper intake manifold is removed. These bolts are located in the right front and left rear corners of the lower intake manifold. Remove the upper intake manifold to service the lower intake.
    The 3.8L (VIN 1) supercharged engine uses a manifold similar to the 3.8L (VIN K), but the supercharger serves as the upper manifold.
    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. On 3.8L (VIN 1) engines, remove the supercharger assembly. Please see the procedure in this section.
    3. Remove the upper intake manifold using the procedure above.
    4. Remove the EGR outlet pipe from the intake manifold.
    5. Detach the engine coolant temperature sensor wiring harness from the sensor.
    6. Remove the lower intake manifold bolts and carefully lift off the manifold.

    To install:

    1. Clean all parts well with degreaser, especially the gasket seal surfaces on the upper and lower manifold pieces and between the lower manifold and the cylinder heads..
    2. Install new gaskets to the cylinder heads and new seals to the engine block. Carefully lower the manifold into place. Apply thread-locking compound to the bolt threads. Make sure to install the two hidden bolts in the lower intake manifold. Hand start all bolts, then torque evenly to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm). Follow the toque sequence, starting in the center, then working outwards in a circle.
    3. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of the removal process.

    Upper Intake Manifold (Plenum)
    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. On 3.8L (VIN 1) engines, remove the supercharger assembly. Please see the procedure in this section.
    3. Tag for identification, then remove the right side spark plug wires.
    4. Disconnect the ignition wires from the fuel rail.
    5. Remove the fuel rail. Please see Section 5.
    6. Remove the cable bracket from the intake manifold.
    7. Remove the throttle body.


    NOTE Two bolts which fasten the lower intake manifold to the cylinder head are accessible are accessible only after the upper intake manifold is removed. These bolts are located in the right front and left rear corners of the lower intake manifold.
    1. Remove the upper intake manifold bolts and carefully lift the upper intake manifold from the engine.

    Starter motor


    hi there,
    shut down the engine for atleast 30 minutes to cool,the starter motor was located under beneath the engine,the pinion driver was coincide to flywheel,if you want replace starter motor,disconnect starter regulator cable, loosen two bolt on the engine starter motor holder,try to swicth starter motor on a free way that could go out on mounting space,the exhaust manifold mostly is behind the way of starter motor if hard to pull out,if necessary disconnect exhaust manifold replace exhaust manifold gasket,distortion on manifold gasket may happen after removing manifold
    . pull out starter motor and replace a new one, put back also exhaust manifold if you disconnect it.
    set fender covers on each fender to prevent paint damage
    select the correct size open end box end wrench or ratchet, socket and extension. This procedure is much easier using the ratchet, socket and extension. Use your wrench to remove all of the manifold mount bolts. The manifold will now be free enough to access the gasket behind it
    remove the old gasket using your putty knife. The gasket should come of mostly intact. Use your putty knife to remove any gasket material that remains on the engine block or the manifold. Any gasket material left on the mounting surfaces will cause leaks that inhibit engine performance coat the new gasket on both sides with a light coat of anti-seize compound. Put the new gasket in place against the block mounting surface. The anti-seize compound will hold the new gasket in place and prevent the gasket from sticking to the mounting surface, making future repairs easier.
    push the manifold in against the new gasket and the block. coat the threads of your manifold bolts with a light coat of anti-seize compound. This will protect the threads on the bolt and the mounting surface. Start all manifold bolts by hand to ensure that the manifold is positioned evenly against the block. Be sure that the gasket remains lined up with the mounting holes. If the gasket slips out of position it will leak.
    use your wrench or a torque wrench if required by the service manual to tighten all manifold bolts. Start the engine and check for any leaks. no leaks means you are done.

    How to replace the water pump on 1993 oldsmoblie achieva.


    2.4 enigine is the harder of the 3 enignes. it will need a timing chain to be removed and a coolant tube in the back of the engine to be removed. this job on the book calls for almost 7 hours.

    if its 3.3 or 3100 its alot easier.

    3100 is just 4 10mm pulley bolts and 5 or 6 small 8mm water pump bolts.

    3.3 is alittle more work, but same concept as 3100 engine. more owkr only cause its in a tighter area.
