Question about 1997 Dodge Intrepid
My car just quits running at the most awkward times. I believe it is shorting out or something. I went to a store turned off the engine and then the headlights. When I came back out the car wouldn't start. The engine turned over fine but it wouldn't fire up. After an hour of trying to start the car I decided to turn on the headlights just for the heck of it. To my disbelief it started right up.
The car still stalls at random times but it always fires right up now. Any ideas?
So you're saying that there seems to be a relation between the headlights and the engine issue... Seems strange, but I've seen similar symptoms on a car where one of the clamps on the battery poles weren't secured tight enough (even though they did look/feel ok). Could also be that the ground wire (running from the negative pole on the battery) has a bad connection. Check and clean those first, it's both easy and cheap.
If it's not related to the battery you might have a faulty sensor somewhere. If so you should check your onboard diagnostic sensor for any codes.
Good luck mate!
