SOURCE: Serpentine Belt Toyota Rav4

Hi maroon,

  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator. Double check your routing.
  • The tensioner pulley is on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done

SOURCE: procedure to change serpentine belt 2006 toyota tacoma?

On my 2005 Tacoma with the 4.0L V6, I found it easier to change the belt from under the truck. Just remove the skid pan. Plenty of room to install the belt. The tensioner pulley is the one at about 2-o'clock from the crankshaft with the belt nearly all the way around it.

SOURCE: serpentine belt replacement

To loosen and remove the drive belt on a 2004 Toyota 1.4L engine you simply use a wrench and pull up on the spring-loaded tensioner.1d45837.gif
You should be aware, however, that if you are experiencing problems with belt squeal or rattling noise, there is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for your vehicle that provides information for an updated tensioner assembly.

I am try to replace the serpintine belt for the power steering on

This answer is for a 2003 Toyota Camry listed by the Asker under the 2001 Toyota Avalon Category

Click on the following direct Link. It has the Serpentine Belt Diagram.

Standard Rules to Removal the Serpentine Belt with a Tensioner:
1. Find the Tensioner(s). (See Diagrams on Link)
2. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool, Or Wrench OR Ratchet, Rotate/Move the Tensioner USING THE AVAILABLE NUT (on the Pulley or Arm Base) OR the OPENING (3/8ths or 1/2 inch square opening) rotating the Tensioner Pulley/Arm - moving it away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
3. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys.
4. DO NOT quickly release the Tensioner, but gently allow the Tensioner to rest in its closed position.

Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt with Tensioners:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.
b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them

Loosen the tensioner pulley to remove the belt. It is the one that has a long bolt running through it. Once you remove the old belt, install the new one using the appropriate diagram from the above two links. Readjust the tension using the bolt you loosened to remove the old belt.

Squeeking serpentine belt

Very quick fix: shoot a little talc powder on the moving fan belt and pulley... this is only temporary.. be sure to check all pulleys and tensioners for misalignment and or loosening or wear... take the fan belt off and spin all the pulleys and listen for bearing noise, and check for uneven wear on the pulleys.... all indications of something begining to wear out...

Installation of a timing belt that loosened during removal of alternator for '05 Toyota Camry LE

Your timing belt has nothing to do with the alternator. You must mean your fan belt do you? The serpentine belt that you loosened to change the alternator? There should be a directional sticker under your hood somewhere, to show you how to put it back on. If not, just put ribs to ribs, and flats to flats, and work your way around.
