on the 2000 ford taurus gas tank there looks to be some kind of fitting on the rear top right side of tank with a tee fitting and hoses. there appears to be gas stains coming down from this area. my repair book tells about an evaporitive emission shut off valve with a plastic push connect fitting in this area.

Check to make sure its not a leak. If its a leak, there is a product at Most Auto part stores that will stop a leak even when its leaking gas. If this doesnt work, you would have to remove the tank for repair or replacement.

Well you need to find out exactly where it is coming from . tank , line , filler neck , then we can break down the fixing from there .

I would start by making sure the harness was not pinched during the install of the tank. I believe the FPMD is under the rear right seat or on that side, in the trunk.

first after your car has been sitting over night move it then look at the driveway where it had been sitting if you see fresh fuel then look under the rear of the car to see if you see any fuel dripping,if you do get your car somewhere to get a mechanic look at as soon as possible..

2002 ford taurus smell gas when the outside temperature is over 80 degrees

Fuel tanks have a vent tube and a charcoal cannister to capture the gas fumes from the tank. It's possible there is a cracked or loose hose, faulty fuel cap, bad canister or a fuel leak and any one of many connections. Investigate for sign of raw fuel along the underside of te vehicle, and in the engine compartment. Attempt to follow the smell to isolate the location of a leak.

I changed the fuel pump and since then every now and then you can smell gas, but I havent seen any leaks

Sounds like a line from the evaporative system is broke or not connected..Also make sure theres not a leak in the filler hose coming from the tank to where you put in the fuel..The evaporative lines and the filler hoses,,are easy to break or leave off during installation..You will have to let the tank back down to look..You should be able to lower it to see over the top,,without letting it all the way down

Check and see if you have any gas on the ground after you park your car. Check around the gas tank and gas cap. It's possible that the fuel pump (which is in the gas tank) has hoses that may be leaking. If this is a slight leak, it might only manifest itself via a gas odor into the trunk or passenger compartment. It might be a good idea to put the car on a hoist and follow the fuel lines from the engine to the fuel tank. There should a one line that takes the fuel from the fuel tank to the engine and another that brings back the excess. There should also be another line coming out of the fuel tank that is for venting. Unfortunately, the fuel pump and hose connections are not easily accessible and require either removing the gas tank or cutting a hole in the trunk to access it. You should definitely take care of this soon as leaks don't get better, only worse and it is a potential fire hazard. Good luck!

2000 ford taurus gas tank has what appears to be a fitting on the top right rear that has hoses attached. there are stains and gas smell coming from this area. my repair manual mentions a plastic push...

The Evaporative Emission Control System monitors the fuel vapor flow between the engine intake manifold and the EVAP canister. The system failure occurs when a leak or blockage between the intake manifold, the EVAP canister purge valve and the EVAP canister is detected by the PCM.

Code P1443 Possible Causes:

- Pinched, blocked or plugged fuel vapor tubes/hoses (except between fuel tank and EVAP canister)

- Damaged EVAP canister

- Disconnected, cracked or cut fuel vapor tubes/hoses (except between fuel tank and EVAP canister)

- Damaged EVAP canister purge valve

Notes: Check for audible vacuum noise in the engine compartment or significant fuel odor in the engine compartment or near the EVAP canister.

On my '98 4x4, the cannister purge valve is located under the hood, mounted on the driver's side fender.

The EVAP cannister itself is located underneath the truck, in back, between the spare tire and the truck bed (have to remove the spare to get at it).

If it were me I would hold off on replacing parts...I'd drive around some more first, making sure that I don't overfill the gas tank or run it dry and making sure I replace the gas cap properly, etc. If the code returns, then its time to think repairs.
