Question about 1996 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

I have a 1997 gmc sierra ext cab 4x4 and I have to keep replacing the belt every 6 months so that it won't squeak. I also replaced the tensor with the same result.

Have you checked closely for possibility of oil or antifreeze dripping on somewhere, without you really noticing ?

I had the same problem with the after market serpentine belt, i replaced it with the OEM and found it not to squeak. Have a closer look at the V groves on the belt and the pulley, I found the V grove on the belt had a different size then the groves on the pulley making them squeal. Good luck and hope this helps.

What is the engine size on a 1991 gmc sierra 2500 4x4

That year you probably have a 5.7 or 5.0 motor. You can find the engine size by getting your VIN and calling the dealer. They can tell you from either the 8th or 10th number in the VIN

replace the fuel sender unit. I don't know why they go bad, but once you do, it should fix the problem.

inspect distributor gear and cam gear, have you disconnect timing wire behind glove box in some models or by firewall at right side in others while setting timing?

I have a 2006 GMC sierra and the a belt squeaks

If both belts are the same age it wouldn't hurt to replace both of them, spray them with a belt dressing before installing new belts. You can get this dressing at Autozone and possibly the belts too. Good luck.
