If you just want to splice into rear taillights on Caravan, and run harness out below liftgate door, you can. Just remove plastic cover in rear corners of cargo area at back of taillights to access wires. Do you have a test light 12VDC?

If the trailer has electric brakes that are powered by a separate battery, you use a 4-pole to 5-pole adapter and connect the extra wire to the truck backup light circuit.

When I hook up my truck to my trailer turn on my right turn signal my four way flashers come on why is this happening?

Hello Dewey, I can think of three reasons that could cause your problem. The truck pigtail is improperly wired, the trailer pigtail is improperly wired, or the trailer wires are contacting each other that they shouldn't.

Where is the trailer fuse located on a 2012 jeep grand cheroke

depends if the person , installing trailer setup
used the factory kit
or just cut in to your wiring.

my 2010 WK has a fuse.
why not say what fails.? first.
brakes
blinkers L and R
parking lights.
and if the cars lights are effected?????? or hazards.

which location, will the fuses are all under-hood.
the operators guide names them all , lost that.

the factory kit comes with trailer relays to add to system.
this protects the system best from trailers that short out.
best is to set it up like that. using real jeep kit.
but we can fix yours. as soon as you answer the questions.

Lights when pulling a trailer

There are separate fuses in the fuse box for the trailer lights than for the vehicle lights. Ensure these fuses are good. The trailer lights work without any special settings on the vehicle light switch.
If you're getting no lights whatsoever (no brake, turn, or running) then you likely have a grounding issue. This is usually the white wire on the trailer lights.

Do you have a 7-wire, 6-wire, 5-wire, or 4-wire trailer light connector on the rear of your vehicle?

Need to know how to wire in trailer brakes with a battery on the trailer on a 92 jeep Cherokee Laredo

This is the OEM / Factory set up for trailers from my 1990 FSM. Note that they used a flat-5 connector instead of the typical flat-4 plug that 99% of the known universe uses. I don't know if newer XJ's came with the flat-4... The 7-conductor schematic is typical although you'll find that some agricultural / horse trailers are wired differently (click image for zoom)...

Here's a scan of the "instruction sheet" that came with my utility trailer's flat-4 wiring kit. (Retouched for clarity.)

Trailer wiring problem. Tow vehicle is a 2008 Grand Caravan with 4 wire plug. Double checked, plug function works fine. When trailer is plugged to tow vehicle with tow vehicle lights OFF the trailer...

Most likely the brown wire from the trailer connector is connected to a constant battery voltage source, and it should be connected to the vehicle running light circuit, however someone might have wired the trailer connector up that way on purpose so that the trailer does not draw power from the vehicle running lights and possibly damage the vehicle running light circuit. (Dodge/Chrysler vehicles do have delicate lighting systems) Here are some images to help assist you, and the 4 way connector is the same as the 5 way connector just without the blue wire for the trailer brakes.

I cant figure out how to wire in a 4prong trailer pigtail to a 91 toyota 4 runner because the break and turn light are not the same wire.

go to your nearest auto parts store and ask them for a connector that plugs in the factory harness. that adapts a 5 wire toyota system to a 4 wire trailer system. thats the easyest way but I can tell you how to wire it up but it's kinda complicated.

What is the best wiring for trailer lights, 4 wire

If the trailer you are using does not have electric brakes you can just use the good old four wire system. Go to a parts store and you can get a neat little plug that you just plug into your wire harness at the rear of your vehicle. This will hook the wires up correctly for you. Then you will be set to tow. Usually the plug costs around 24 to 30 dollars. It is lots easier than splicing into the system if you don't know what you are doing. Trust me on this one.
