Question about 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

1 Answer

Upon accelerating, there is a chirping sound coming from the belt area of the engine. I read that a common problem with this truck is the crankcase pulley bolt loosening and eventually falling off causing major damage. How easy is it to tighten or replacing the crankcase pulley bolt?

The chirping noise you hear are the belts being loose, adjust the tension on the belts,if the pulley bolt has not loosened up by now ,you dont have a bolt problem-when you have the timing belt replaced ,have the mechanic put some lock-tite on the bolt

Chirping noise when accelerating

If it is a belt noise, sprinkling baby powder on the belt will make the noise go away. Apply liberaly with engine off onto the belt and start the vehicle. The belt may have gotten coolant on it and this will cause the chirp. Also a defective belt tensioner will cause the belt to chirp

How to replace a crankshaft pulley on 2002 Buick rendezvous

a slight wable is common on many of these. I would be more concerned with the belt tensioner and belt. But the crank pully can be done in your driveway. You will need to go to parts store and rent the pulley removal tool that is specific to this engine.

My 1997 Malibu is holding up very well. Recently, I have noticed a slight chirping noise whenever I idle (especially after starting the car) and when I accelerate to about 45 or 50. It is NOT a whine...

Remove the serpentine belt notating the direction of travel. Start the vehicle long enough to confirm the chirp is either still present or it has stopped.

If the chirp stops manually spin all the pulley by hand to see if you can duplicate the sound. If nbothing else is making noise and the belt is in good shape put the belt back so that it travels in the opposite direction. If the noise persists replace the belt. If the noise goes away see how long it lasts. I have had many that have not returned after rotating the belt.

One other thing you can try is putting a small dab of di-electric grease on the belt, with the engine off of course. Spread the dab around a little with a finger, again with the engine off. Start the vehicle, give it a couple of seconds to let the grease work around the belt. If the noise goes away replace the belt.

Churping sound upon start up between the firewall and engine. Sounds like a bearing but quites down some after engine running for a couple minutes.

I would try to remove the drive belt(s) and see if the chirping goes away, and also while the belt(s) are off, check that each rotatable pulley turns freely indicating that the bearings are ok.

Readjust the Serpentine belt as the solution for the chirping sound. The check engine light could be a lot of things. Take it to the local Auto parts store and ask them to read the fault code for you. It is most likely the O2 sensor needing replaced and is an easy fix.

1999 Grand am gt chirping noise

Certain brands (cheapo) of serpentine belt will do this. It is because the new belt is thinner than the old belt. This causes reduced spring tension by the belt tensioning device. Other possible problems are a bad belt tensioner, driving through deep water and getting the belt wet while driving or a defective crankshaft harmonic balancer assembly.
I HATE Dayco brand belts, because they do this a lot. I would have the shop inspect the parts mentioned above. If they are OK, tell them you want a new belt (for free).

Accleration problems 1998 ford f150 v6

probably the belt making noise , very common .

WHen a belt gets old it gets dry and cracks start to appear , the non-ribbed side of the belt may get dry & glazed also make noise . common problema are also tensioners that make the belt get out of line with the rest of the pulleys , look carefully because just a little miss-alignment can cause a belt to slip on the smooth side of pulleys and make noise . Misting water onto the belt may also help you determine what is making noise.

Good Luck and Watch your Fingers !!!!
