The firing order for the 4.2 liter L6 is 1-5-3-6-2-4
The cylinder from the radiator to the fire wall is 1-2-3-4-5-6
The distributor rotates clock wise and #1 post is the one towards the passenger side fender. #2 post rotating clock wise goes to cylinder #5 ect
Good luck and hope this helps,

Engine firing order

First generation (ZJ) (1993-1998) what engine?
you dont know what engine is under the hood>?
well there are 3+ engines. or more , if exported out of USA. more.
for the inline engines, all are #1 front (RWD cars)
if you look close,. one cylinder is more forward that the other in front
that farther forward is called #1 on all V engines. (ASE class day 1 rule)
now the firing orders of most.
1,3,4,2 I4.
153624 v , I6 <<<<<< my guess. INLINE SIX Four Liters?
5.9l started in 1998 , USA Export models produced at the plant in Graz, Austria, were given the vehicle designation of "ZG". (have diffr. engines)

3.7L 6 cylinder
1-6-5-4-3-2

4.7L 8 Cylinder
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

5.7L 8 Cylinder
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

even the 5.9L fits. some jeeps had the engine changed.
so not looking and seeing what you have its a wild card.
mine has 3.8L V6
1-2-3-4-5-6.
but fires in pairs, due to wasted spark coils ,(3 coils) tricky , no?

now I have answered for just about all engines. there.

Need ignition firing for 95 4 l. engine

1-5-3-6-2-4

ALL Jeep 4.0 motors use this firing order. Any year, any model, high output or not.

Also, the spark plug wire placement on the cap, in a clockwise direction from the post nearest the engine block is: 6-2-4-1-5-3. (to the left side of the number 6 post, there should be a hold down screw or strap for fastening the distributor cap to the distributor.

Distrbutor to spark plug wiring

Hey there janandshane,

I've got a 91 Wrangler, lots of fun. Here's your info.

Viewed from above, front of vehicle on the right side, cylinder locations are:
6 5 4 3 2 1 for a six cylinder and 4 3 2 1 for a four Cylinder

The firing order is:
1 5 3 6 2 4 for the six and 1 3 4 2 for the four.

The distributor rotation is clockwise.

To find Top dead center (for wire to cylinder #1 on distributor), look for and line up the timing marks on the crankshaft (front of the engine).

Or, pull the #1 spark plug, stuff the hole with a cork or a rag. Slowly crank the engine until the cork pops out.

Pull the distributor off. The rotor is pointing where the plug for cylinder #1 should go. The rest of the wires go in the firing order clockwise.

That about covers it.

Remember: Good things come to those who rate. How about a nice FixYa?

The firing order for the 4.9 L engine is 1-5-3-6-2-4, with the firing order rotation on the distributor cap going clockwise. For the 5.0 & 7.5 L engines, the order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8, and the 5.8 L engine is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. On all three of these engines, the distributor cap firing rotation is counterclockwise. Also, on the six cylinder 4.9 L engine, the cylinders are in a "straight six", with #1 cylinder starting in front, and going in order straight back to #6. The eight cylinder engines' cylinders all fire in order also, (standing in front of the vehicle looking back towards the firewall) with #1 being front on your left and going straight back to #4, and then #5 being at front right, going straight back to #8, with the distributor being front and center. Hope this helps you out.
