Question about 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

Car cranks and runs but completely shuts down when driving.

Recently my car wouldn't crank so I took it to a mechanic. He claims to have replaced the computer and the ignition and now the car cranks, but completely shuts down randomly. Everything shuts down, dash lights, power steering, everything. We've checked the grounds on the car and they're all intact. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi can any1 help me with my nissan sentra problem?my car just shut off while driving and lost power be for it shut completely off tried to crank it back up but it didn't start sprayed some starter

Crank shaft sensors often fail without triggering a code. But in its early stages, a check engine light may be on. Symtoms of a bad crank sensor are: poor acceleration ( lack of power ) rough idle, ETC. sometimes you may be able to start it normally, and other times it takes 3 or more times. If the check engine light is on take it to a auto parts store and thy can read the code for free. To tell if that's the problem. God-Bless!

Car just completely dies while I'm driving..could be 5 min or 45 min into driving but car just shut down...starts back and drivives fine...please help

Could be the cam sensor, crank sensor, coil pack, fuel pump. Even if no warning light is lit, the computer is recording these shut downs and why. A good mechanic, with the proper scanner can pinpoint the culprit.

Twice now my 2004 Nissan Maxima has completely died as I was coming to a stop at an intersection. Both times it started back up again after about 10 minutes and then runs normal. I just don't want to...

I can guarantee your car keeps cutting off because there is a problem with your crank sensor. I have a '04 maxima SE and the day I paid my car off it did the exact same thing, it cut off then cranked back up a short while later and when I took it to the dealer there was a problem with the crank sensor. You might wanna check that and get it replaced soon...it's cheaper if u dont do it at the dealer tho

That is a problem with the imobilizer. If you have a key fob replace the battery in the fob.If that fails then you have to get the imobilizer deactivated by a garage

THE ENGINE CUT OFF CRANKED ONE TIME THEN SHUT

Sounds like your fuel pump is going bad. Have your mechanic do a pressure test on it.

it is possable/likely a bad ECTS (engine coolant tep. sensor), this can cause the injectors to allow to much fuel into cylinders and cause a low compression and or flooding situation, good luck, marty

Cranks but wont turn over

you know. i took it to a mechanic and actually.... The timing belt cut the Crank Shaft Censor... So it was the crank shaft censor again. The wires were routed wrong from the first mechanic that "fixed" the car.
