Open trunk pull clip on lock and replace it
you can get locks from lumber company or auto parts stores

This nearly drove me crazy on our 1994 Cougar.
First
remove the electric switch cover(window and mirror controls). Just pops
out with a pry. Remove the harness attachments You will see a single
screw into the door holding a bracket between door pad and door frame.
Remove it.
Second, remove the door lamp plastic cover at the bottom
rear of the door. You will find a second screw in there on the upper
right corner. Remove it and you are ready. Pull the whole door pad
upward and it comes right off. No popem plastic clips or anything else.
Just 3 or 4 quarter circle retainers that pop over into the door when
you push the pad back down
