There is also a screw on the bottom of the light housing. You access this screw by laying on your back and reaching up behind the bumper assembly. You may also need to take one screw off the bumper mount near the tail light. This makes it easier to remove the old light housing.

In the trunk, in the rear corners, you'll see some plastic "caps" with tabs on them, similar to wing nuts. Remove those, and the taillight comes right off the back of the car. That will allow you to replace the bulbs.

SOURCE: removing tail light

Drop the tailgate - there are two torx style bolts holding the lens assembly in place. Remove both, then with some gentle force, pull the lens assembly straight back(there are two self seating plastic bolts that hold the assembly into the truck frame, towards the cab).

Once undone, there is a strip of three bulbs on one wired base, and that base is screwed to the lens assembly (4 phillips screws). Unscrew those, and the lens assembly is free from the base. You can then remove the bulbs, insert new ones, and reverse the process. Good luck.

SOURCE: Tail Light in 2004 Beetle

If you need to replace your tail light bulb, first remove the cover (it's round) from the inside of your trunk. There will be a black knob that needs to be unscrewed totally to release the back light casing. The screw is spring loaded so it is not going to fall. Be sure to hold on to the black knob. If you drop it you can retrieve it, but it's best to not drop it. Next pry the light casing from the fender with a knife or some other sturdy object. It is best to pry the light out from the line that runs from the light to the hatchback door. Don't be afraid, it takes a little force to pull out. After you pull out casing, you'll find two light switches. The one with one filament is for the turn signals and the one with two filaments is for the break light. Turn the light switch counter clockwise and remove. Switch out light bulb with new one (AutoZone has them for about $5.00 - package of 2). Replace every thing back as you uninstalled it. It is recommended that you replace all bulbs, that way it you don't have to do it again later when they go out. It'll save you the time and hassle of doing this again. Hope this will help anyone so print and save in your manual for later use.

Tail light replacement is not as hard as it seems.
Tools needed:flat head screwdriver and a deep 5/32 socket(a pair of pliers will work).

Change out a taillight

You want to change the tail light bulb?

The process for replacing tail light bulbs is the same in all models. If you have a burnt-out tail light bulb, you may need to replace the brake light, the reverse light or the turn signal. The procedure to replace each of the bulbs is the same.

    Instructions

    1. Open the Hummer's rear swing gate. This will expose the edge of the vehicle's tail light assembly. You'll see two small Phillips head screws that hold the tail light assembly in place. Put on your gloves.

    2. Remove the two screws from the tail light assembly. Pull the tail light out and inspect the back for two bulbs. The top bulb is the brake light and turn signal. The bottom bulb is the reverse bulb. Determine which bulb you need to replace.

3Rotate the bulb's socket counterclockwise to disconnect it. Unplug the bulb from its socket.

4Push the replacement bulb into its socket firmly. Insert the socket back into the tail light. Turn it clockwise to secure it in place.

5Place the tail light into its cradle. Hold it with one hand and replace the Phillips head screws with the other.

No brake lights 1990 ford f 150

First, check fuses. If the fuse for tail and brake lights is OK, check the bulbs. If they are OK, you need a new brake light switch, which attached to the brake pedal under the dash. The part should be less than $20. These are a common replacement item on older fords.

Need to replace rear brake light on a 1999 Buick Park Avenue. How do I remove the plastic lenses or assembly?

you will need to open the trunk and remove the carpet covering the inside where the tail lights are, find 2 or 3 nuts which are probably 8 or 10 mm,so use a socket and ratchet, remove the nuts and pull the tail light asembly out from the back and you will find the tail light bulb sockets. release the little latch/lock clips while turning the socket assembly about 1/4 turn counter clockwise and you can check each bulb. watch where the wire harness for each socket and also the tail light assembly is so you dont pinch or damage the wires when putting the tail light assembly back in. your owners manual may also give you these instructions and will tell you the correct bulbs to use for tail, brake and turn signal lights.

2002 Toyota highlander passenger brake light not working

RE: 2002 Toyota Highlander 2.4cyl. 4X4 Base Model

I am a Certified Technician and have basic knowledge with electronics in electrical wiring. I searched the web and discovered this is a common problem.

I fixed the problem and it was a simple procedure... The problem is with the reverse light socket at the side with no brake light. This socket functions as a hub to direct current to the brake bulbs.

Remove reverse light socket and re-seat bulb. Check for loose or broken prongs. Replace if necessary.

Swap the reverse socket with the other side.

Try removing the bulbs from the rear tail lights you have one 2 bulb system shorting out, so one at a time remove the bulbs then replace the fuse and see which one is bad or just buy new bulbs and replace, also could be front running light blinker light. But sounds like brake light to ground threw bulb.
