Buying a car

the car is really a Toyota, but the real question is did GM move it.
that makes it harder.
http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/16-archived-corolla-threads/9068-geo-prizm-toyota-corolla.html

off all questions ,locations are the hardest.
many books dont say, because the makers love to move parts around.
the only book that gets it correct is the FSM. why not get one.
and keep it with car. so you dont have to get help for every page.
and hark some cars there is no seperate Fuel pump relay.
its part if the ECU main. common on some 1990 Geos.
my first question is why do you need this?

my online page shows?
Fuel pump relay is located at the lower left side of the relay box - fuel injected engine.
i dont trust online , for older cars, they mix, parts up badly (SSDD)
and i look more and its a mix of metro's and nova/s ,trash info.
i cant even find a schematic, which is what i look for first.
to see the relay and now it REALLY works, and not assume i just know.
im looking in toyota online now (Geo docs are iffy, at best GM)
find a real GM GEO used FSM off fleabay.

4A engines, the relay is called C7 "circuit opening relay"
has 5 pins and forms mag. "OR "logic inside.
the relay closes for CRANK "OR" ECU happy.
ECU happy means , spark is ok "AND" engine is running. pin FC on ECU.
now 7A, its the same, i never assume it, i look

found it , this car has no less than 6 Junction boxes. relay and fuse.
4 in engine bay if ABS car.
and 10 relay location drawing.
why not look on line at alldata.com and see them.
JB2 is the box. in engine bay, left strut tower. (usa drivers side)
they have EFI main relay
and one more called engine main, with 5 pins.
so its not even called a fuel pump relay, hard to find.

jb2
facing box.
see top row off relays
and bottom row of fuse.
so left to right is. (not canada , only uSA)
horn--radfan1---EMR---headlight--EFI main,

so EMR is fuel pump.

alldata.com
i found it under toyota corolla, 1993.
if GM does this diffr, i dont know, get a real GM book.

Where is the relay switch for the air conditioning system?

The A / C relay is located in the main fuse / relay box located in the engine bay.

Look for A/C Comp printed on the box cover.

On some Aerio's , this relay is located inside the vehicle under the dashboard.

Car cranks but dose not start, there is no power to distributator or fuel pump

I suspect the at this point, the main relay is defective. This relay controls power to fuel and spark circuits.

The PGM-FI Main Relay is actually comprised of two individual internal relays. When the ignition switch is initially turned ON , the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) supplies ground to the PGM-FI Main Relay. This ground triggers one of the PGM-FI internal relays that sends battery voltage to the fuel pump for two seconds to pressurize the fuel system.
When the engine is running the PCM supplies a continuous ground to the PGM-FI Main Relay. The supplied ground keeps the relay in the "closed" position providing electrical current to the fuel pump, keeping the fuel loop pressurized while the engine runs.
If the engine is not running with the ignition on, the PCM cuts the ground to the PGM-FI Main Relay, causing the relay to "open" and stop the electric current flow to the fuel pump. As mentioned previously, if the engine is not running, the PCM will only supply ground to the PGM-FI Main Relay for two seconds when the ignition switch is initially switched to the ON position.
The PGM-FI Main Relay also supplies electrical power to the Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve and to the fuel injectors.

TESTING

If the engine starts and continues to run, the PGM-FI Main Relay is working and does not need to be replaced.
  1. Locate and remove the relay.

On some models of the Civic and Civic del Sol it is located to the left of the steering column under the dash. Many later models position it either near the passenger right side kick panel under the dash or by the driver left side kick panel up under the dash.
  1. Attach the battery positive terminal to the No. 2 terminal.
  2. And the battery negative terminal to the No. 1 terminal.
  3. Check for continuity between terminal No. 5 and 4.
  4. If there is no continuity, replace the relay and retest

Circuit Braker
A bimetal circuit breaker is located in the joint box, which is just above the interior fuse panel. This circuit breaker protects the rear window defrost circuit and is the plug-in type.

Fuses
The main fuse block is located inside the left side of the engine compartment near the battery. There is also an interior fuse panel located just above the left side kick panel.

Fuses Replacement

CAUTION Never replace a blown fuse with one of a higher rating. Severe damage to the vehicle, electrical harness and components, as well as personal injury or even death could occur.
Main Fuse Block
(see Figure 1)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Fig. 1: Remove the fuse box cover, located in the engine compartment, to access the main fuses for the vehicle
  1. Unhook the lock tab from the main fuse block cover and open the cover.
  2. Pull the fuse from the main fuse holder.
  3. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
Interior Fuse Panel
The interior fuses simply unplug from the fuse panel. Use the fuse puller tool provided with your car to remove fuses from the panel. The tool is located on the back of the interior fuse panel cover.

Relay
The main relay box is located on the upper left-hand side of the firewall (bulkhead). There is also a relay box mounted inside the vehicle under the left side of the instrument panel.

Relay Replacement
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If replacing a relay at the main relay box, disconnect the electrical connector and slide the relay from its mounting bracket.
  3. If replacing a relay at the interior relay box, simply unplug the relay.
  4. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

I need to find the location of the cooling fan relay in my 2002 Honda civic EX?

You'll need to print a component locator or schematic from Mitchell or AllDataDIY.com to find the harness and locate the exact relay if you don't have a diagram in your main fuse box. It is located in the engine's main fuse block, inside of the cover (typically) and is generally 4 wire and almost a miniature version of what you might think a relay should look like.

Hope that helps.

Main relay location

The main relay is located behind left side of the dash and above and behind the fusebox and above the hood release.

  • VIGOR (behind the left front kick panel)
The main relay is located behind left side of the dash and above and behind the fusebox and above the hood release. The First generation Legend main relay location is between the steering column and the fuse box. It's deep in there. There was a little difficulty drawing the relay so it's actually very deep in there. There is a device (a relay) blocking the main relay. You will need to remove it to get a view of the main relay. The removal procedure is the about the same as the Accord's procedure.

Locating the main relay using your ears and fingers:
Steps:

1. Turn the ignition to ON. You should hear two clicks (a thousand of a second apart) under the left or right side of the dash board. One click is for the ECU/Injectors the other is for the fuel pump. At this moment the check engine light should come on.
2. Listen carefully at the moment the clicks engage (usually somewhere underneath the dashboard.) Reach in and touch the main relay.
3. 2 seconds later you should feel a click if the main relay is at least working or wait until it works. At this moment the check engine light should go out.
4. Turn the ignition to start and you should feel a click, turn engine off you should feel another click.
5. Most main relays should have seven terminals. Please check if the location is already listed below.

How do I get the main relay out?
Steps: See four ways below so you can get it out. First you have to reach high up in there and do all this with one hand and a flashlight.
efiremoveinstall.gif A. Unbolt the bolt using a 10mm socket (picture A) or
Ab. Unclip the clip from the steel tab and slide it apart (picture A) or
B. Separate the steel tab from the plastic case (picture B) with a large flat screw driver jam and twist between the plastic case and the tab or
C. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Unclip two clips I pointed with two arrows (picture C, or below) with a small flat head screw driver or with a strong thumb and then yank it out (D.) This is the preferred choice by many. Mechanics prefer choice A and maybe B. See detailed relay circuit photo.
