Question about 1997 Jeep Tj

1 Answer

Ignition tumbler removal

Just purchased a 94 jeep YJ a 2.5 4-cyl. motor with 5- speed manual trans.
When I turned off the motor, the running headlites stayed on, no matter what I did, and the high beam headlite indicator stayed on. I was downtown at the time so I just drove it home for further investgation.
When I went to turn the motor off it would not quit running and the ignition switch felt wonky.

I pulled off the steering wheel, unhooked the wiring from below, took all small bolts out as well as the large bolts that hold everything up in place, but trying to remove the tumbler is the problem,

Please, if anyone has a solution and I can get it fixed it would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks Mikey

Have you checked to see whether the battery lamp illuminates with the key on only. If not then the fuse to is blown or that wiring to the field circuit is faulty.
Did you replace the parts with new ones?? You did not state.
No battery warning lamp no charge simple.

1.Insert the key and turn to lock pos.
2.Using a Torx bit,remove the cyl.retaining screw and bracket.
3.Turn the key clockwise to off.The cyl. will unseat itself about 1/8 inch.DON'T TRY AND REMOVE YET or damage to the halo ring.
