How do I fix a door locking issue?

My son has a 2007 Hyundai accent and when I close the driver side door, the latch does not catch. I looked at the passenger side and moved the latch with my finger, it clicks and stays when it is in the downward position. When I try that on the driver side, no click and it will go right back to the open position and does not stay down(latched). I also cannot lock that door either. Does this sound electrical, mechanical or both. Any help will be great. Thanks,

It sounds like the classic "someome brushed up against the lock on the door and changed the position to the locked position" ordeal. Try changing the position of the lock in the door. You should be able to look at the lock before you change it and see that it is in the wrong position and can not mate with the receiver (or nader pin). It is classic tha the door won't close when this is the case.

Testimonial: "Excellent, I will remove the lock and examine it. Superb speedy service and great answers, just what I needed to hear. thanks louise"

I have a 2014 Hyundai Accent, and the door locks constantly lock and unlock. Sometimes I hear it on the back driver side, then the right passenger side. Could this be a relay? Thanks Richard

Quite a lot of cars have automatically locking doors - when the car reaches around 15 mph the doors lock or a minute after the ignition key has been removed. Other than these times the system must receive a lock doors command either from the plip or by using the key to lock the driver door and sometimes the front passenger door.

You didn't say whether the problem was happening while the car is moving or when stationary but that aside, when a command to lock the doors has been received the system will attempt to comply but if it can't comply it will often make subsequent attempts and sometimes it will keep attempting to lock the doors.

Usually the reason it can't comply with the command is because a door isn't fully closed or the system thinks a door or the tailgate isn't fully closed because at least one of the devices in each door that should tell the system all the doors are closed isn't working.

That device on some cars is a switch buried in the door catch that is operated when the door striker is fully engaged in the catch. Often maladjustment and a lack of lubrication causes an abnormally high degree of wear in the catch and especially of the striker preventing the striker fully entering the catch and operating the switch.

I have a 2007 Hyundai Accent and I am having trouble with my doors and windows my driver side door won't unlock from the outside

There is a mechanical linkage that connects the lock cylinder to the mechanism. The linkage has a plastic coupler that has probably failed. As to the window it sounds like a failed switch. Any repair shop or body shop should be able to fix both easily.

The driver side door on my 2002 chevy blazer wont close.how do i fix it?

Door pins are a common failure on that series of Blazer/S10's. Also, another point of contention that the door faces is a sticky latch. Basically, the door latch re-latches itself and when you shut the door into the catch, it slams into it and bounces off. An easy fix is a 3 part cocktail of brake parts cleaner. Open and shut the latch with a screw driver acting as the catch and your interior door handle a few times. P'Blaster, open and shut the door a few times with the screwdriver acting as the catch. Finally, a good shot of white lithium grease. Open and shut the door with a screwdriver as the catch several times. Once you feel it is un-stuck, actually close and open the door several times. If you notice the door rising every time it catches, you MUST replace the door pins (cheap fix). If the door still has issues, replace the door latch (and since you're in there, do some PM and replace the actuator as well).

My BMW x3 2005 back door will not close. The latch doesnt seem to catch. We tried locking and unlocking the doors you can hear the mechanism working but latch is catching. Lock/latch seems to just spin...

Hold down the "open" button on your remote and simultaneosly pull the inside handle of that door open. I just had the issue with my driver's door and as my son tried to "help" (he's 9), one of the passenger doors also got stuck! After not finding a non-tech response, played around some until the the dran latch obliged on the front door. Repeated on passenger door and whew! :-)

The door in a Hyundai Accent 2000 doesn't close (the lock doesn't click to keep the door closed). What can be done to fix it?

try spraying it w/ wd-40 or graphite, work the lock back and forth w/ your finger or a screwdriver. it also could be that its in the locked position now, w/ door open pull handle and see if latch moves/ opens. if it does close door. if this doesnt work go to local junk yard and pick latch up for 50.00 bucks. hope this helps
