Question about 1993 Chevrolet C2500

Cant get the clutch to hold pressure and we have tried every thing it losses pressure every time we bleed the line what do we do?

Hi it sounds like a faulty master cylinder. make sure you are using the correct fluid.

How to change clutch master cylinder


Remove nuts holding master cylinder onto mount. Remove fluid lines carefully, bench bleed new master cylinder then install lines, install mounting nuts then bleed system again applying pressure to clutch pedal several times until no air is seen purging out.

just like all like clutches.

it has a bleed valve on the slave, at the bell housing
you bleed it just like brakes.

but does not cover bleeding, this is base line automech 101 knowledge. the book assumes you know 3 things.
1: constant loss of fluid and why.
2: air is system renders it dead.
3: how to bleed clutch and brakes (same) 5ways but same.


  1. gravity bled
  2. 2 man way.
  3. vacuum bleeding
  4. forward pressure bled at cap
  5. reverse bled at slave.
most times it takes 2 ways, in list, unless #5 is done.
air floats up hill is why and clutch lines are vertical. (hard to do)

I have an 84 Honda shadow vt700. The clutch was working but would slip when hot it would get to where I could release clutch with bike in 1st gear and nothing would happen! It would just continue to idle!...


Bleeding the hydraulics will not improve the friction drive of the clutch in any way,your clutch drive plate is worn out and needs replacing. To bleed the hydraulic line ,make sure that the master cylinder is fully topped up,pump clutch lever several times then tie ,using a zip tie the clutch lever all the way to the handle bar,gently open the bleed screw and await fluid to start dripping from the bleed screw, this may take an hour or two but it will eventually bleed itself,once 25% of the fluid has discharged from the the master cylinder tighten up the bleed screw and this is the easiest DIY way of bleeding a hydraulic system, without a pressure bleeder.

My clutch went out and i had a mechanic friend replace the part...its the part under the engine not the actual clutch but he cant get pressure back in the clutch and cant figure out if bleeding the system...


Bleeding the system is as follows. It also helps if you have a length of clear plastic tubing that fits snugly over the tip of the bleed nipple, which makes it easier to see if there are any air bubbles still coming out.

1. Start with the Master Cylinder full of fluid. (Don't forget to check after a few bleeds that it stays above ¼ full so that you don't introduce more air into the line).

2. Have an assistant pump the clutch pedal 2 or 3 times, then hold down, keeping weight on the pedal as fluid is released.

3. Loosen bleed nipple to release any air & fluid.

4. Tighten nipple. Assistant then lets clutch pedal return. It may be necessary to manually pull back pedal if it does not return by itself.

5. Wait a few seconds then repeat the sequence from #2.
Bleeding is complete when no more air bubbles are visible in the fluid released from the bleed nipple. If clutch is still spongy you may have to repeat the bleeding after a few days driving.

Ran out of clutch fluid now there is air in line...clutch is all the way to floor...how do i get air out of line...have tried everything


It's a matter of bleeding the clutch system completely. You do need to make sure you don't ,have any leaks at the Clutch Master Cyl. or at the Clutch Slave Cyl or the line running between both, and that you don't have clutch fluid in the drivers compartment just below where the clutch rod comes through the firewall. That would of course mean you have to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder due to internal leakage.

This isn't so unusual, you'll have to pull up on the pedal by hand & pump it a few times to get pressure enough to properly bleed the system, or, you will have to start with bleeding the Clutch Master Cyl. first by loosening the line there & have someone push down the pedal, then before letting up on the pedal, tighten the line to prevent air from being drawn in. Repeat two times to get any air out here.

If your parts and lines are all in good shape then re-fill the resivoir & have someone to pull up on the clutch by hand if needed & then if necessary, use their hand to depress & pull the pedal a few times to try & build some pressure so that you can bleed the Clutch slave cylinder a few times to get all of the air out. After you've finished bleeding the system, the pedal should stay in the up position except when being depressed and you should have consistently even pressure when using the clutch.

Not difficult to do, just make sure you have plenty of extra fluid keeping the reservoir full. Bleeding will need an assistance. There's a bleeding valve on the slave cylinder unit it self. The unit does wear out over times rebuild or replace may be necessary due to loss of clutch slave cyclinder pressure. Have your assistance pump the clutch paddle 4-5 times and hold it to the floor while you turn the bleed valve quickly open and shut it off. do this 3-4 times and that should do the trick. Keep in mind, do not let your assistance release the clutch paddle up while you bleeding the valves, keep it to the floor until the bleeding is done and the valve is close. Bleeding clutch slave cylinder


i think youre doing the right thing. they are very stubborn to bleed because the hyd. line goes up high across back of engine before droppiing back down to slave cyl., trapping air. could try to gravity bleed by opening bleeder at slave, cap off of master cyl, full with fluid then it may start to come out after a bit. then try your process again. or can try to bleed at connections further up the line, working your way back to bleeder. hope this helps. be patient.

Bleeding clutch slave cylinder


if you loosten the slave bleeder screw and push in the clutch pedal fluid should come out if not make sure someone holds down the pedal and tighten the screw then pump the clutch a few times and hold the pedal and open the screw if no fluid repeat a couple of times if still no fluid you need either a new master cylinder or just rebuild it( normally cheaper) and if you rebuild it make sure you flush all the lines of debris
