scan it
the CEL means, in barstool jargon
hey mista, the engine brain found and error, its bad, and want
to tell you the test that failed. so scan me.
if lamp flashes, that means the CAT is burning up. $$$
the operator guide tells this much better, but there you go.
use any OBD2 scan tool, in USA> any autostore, will loan it, ask.
press the clear DTC button on the scan tool.
bam, gone.
or you are using a cheap scan tools that does not
all factory codes, and one is set.!
keep in mind, the CEL dont glow for all DTCs
and many scan tools are blind to some or all factory codes
P1xxx and P2xxx are both factory only codes, only
Acura codes,
rule 3> if the scan tool does show say P1xxx code
do not use non Acura data on that code, as its a Acura only code
only P0xxx codes are a standard here, in USA>
in some countries, even P0300 code (gross misfire) in Canada
do NOt glow the CEL, but does store the code
amazing huh?
if the problem has not benn repaired the light will return, if the problem has been repaired then the light will shut off after a few days of driving, to turn light off now you will need a scan tool or remove battery cable for 10 min, this way you will loose your radio and clock settings. hope this helps, also autozone parts stores will do this at no charge they will even tell you what the codes are.
There could be a hundred causes for a check engine light. First step is to hook up a computer scan tool and see what codes the computer has. The next step depends on the codes.
You need to check for codes to see why the light is on. Parts stores will plug a hand held scan tool into the cars diagnostic port and 'read' any codes stored in the computer. You need this info to determine what's wrong. The service is free, and they can give you info on how to fix it. If you still have questions, post them here with the code #'s .
you need an obd11 scantool some auto parts stores have a free check engine light service and they can remove your code or you have to go to the dealership
