Question about 1997 BMW 318

1 Answer

Hi, I have a 97 318 convertible with just 44000 miles. Used very infrequently. Last 6 months or so when started the RPM would go up and down and the motor would chug and bounce in neutral. Once in Drive, it smoothed out under acceleration. Check Engine Light on. a few days ago it sputtered at startup while I was near a garage. They scoped it and said a record on the cam sensor. For the past two days it started up with just a little of the problem and the Check Engine light is now off. I did put in some Techtron cleaner a few days back. Does a cam sensor problem just disappear or is this a lull before the storm? What does this sensor sell for? Installation costs? Location of sensor? Thanks

My automobile only has 44000 miles, it smells like burning gas for the first hour after starting. my mechanic says it may be the vaporizer and thinks it should be covered by the warranty. can you tell me...

Vaporizer? if he means Catalytic Converter, thats what its name is and thats what he should be calling it. Its not covered. the warranty is 8 years or 80k miles. Better be sure thats the problem, sounds like he's guessing.

When im taking off or put on the gas the car doesnt want to move

Make sure you renew your fuel filter every 35000 miles. Also, check the exhaust flow out of your tail pipe. The catalitic converter may be cloged up.It happens.Have someone press down on the gas while you feel the flow out of the tail pipe. Does it feel restricked? I had to have mine on my 2001 replaced at only 44000 miles. I had them put on a "High Flow" type.

Have someone press down on the gas petal while you check the exhaust flow out if the tail pipe. Does it seem cloged. Could be the catalitic converter is cloged. My 2001 went out at only 44000 miles. I had them install a "High Flow" type.

I would replace the fuel filter(every 35000 miles),check the condition of the air filter and check out the catalitic converter and feel the tail pipe to see if the flow seems clogged and weak when some one else gives it the gas.
My 2001 had to have a new cat at only 44000 miles. I had them install a "High Flow" type.

94 Bravada that stumbles and stalls.. won't start when warm..

Try checking the exhaust flow when someone else is pushing down on the gas petal. The farther the petal gos down, the more exhaust should be coming out. I replaced my catalitic convertor at 44000 miles, it was clogged. I had them install a high flow type.
