If you gently shake the gear shift(just a ****) it starts immediately. My mechanic fixed it in one minute. The alternator is connected to some thing that is loose and after it got tightened - I never had this problem.

1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L Hard Start

I love my Rangers, and it sounds like you need a new starter drive, better know as the bendix. It is cheaper to buy a new starter. As far as the door locks, I would get the starter fixed first and the door lock problem may go away. sounds like the starter is dragging the power down and could cause a number of strange thing to happen. Hope I have help you solve your problem. I think It will.

Honda odyssey will not start clicking noise when key turned

Did you ever figure this out? I have a similar problem. There is a very light ticking sound when the key is in the on position but not being turned to start. In fact, nothing happens when turned to start now. It did at least click. The batter is good and everything electrical is working in the vehicle without dimming or anything. Jumping also did not change anything.

03 chev s 10 pickup no start -turn the key get lights stereo fuel pump everything But the starter-have to turn the key back and forth until it finally starts except one time ten minutes of nothing gave up...

I'd start with battery cables. (Hear me out) Lights and other accessories draw minimal amps whereas your starter draws 100s of amps. Your battery cables, especially the bottom ends are exposed to grease and grime which causes resistance. By turning key multiple times you actually heat cables up and they expand making better contact. That would be my first thing to look at. You very well could have bad starter & solenoid but I'd start w/cables. Clean them with a good stiff wire brush.

The dodge caravan will not start one out of 6 times. them you try again and it starts. l checked the battery and the starter. what could it be? lt seems to have power and then none and then it will start...

when you turn the key and it doesn't start can you hear the starter turn the engine over or do you just hear a single click and the engine is not turning over. If you hear the click and the engine does not turn over a new starter will usually take care of it.

I have an xjsv12 Jaguar (1988). I have eliminated it's alternator as a source of its current problem. Symptoms?.. When turning the key to start, it only "clicks" from under the hood. The battery is new....

Sounds like there may be more than one problem but we'll work on the non-start first. When you turn the key to the start position there will be two simultaneous clicks. One from under the hood will be the starter relay located on the right side rail/ drip rail of the engine bay under a black plastic cover with screws. The other click will be from the starter solonoid mounted on the starter motor. if you only hear the click from the relay then either power is not reaching the solonoid, or it is, and the solonoid is bad. if you hear both clicks ( probably you will need an assistant for this ) and no start then the starter motor itself is bad. Hope this helps.

Starting difficulty. When I turn the ignition

Check your battery terminals and the hot lead on the starter make sure they are clean and tight. If they are you are most likely will need a starter.

2006 Jeep Wrangler won't start

First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation.
You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.

1999 Toyota Corolla CE. For about 2 months, the engine does not start immediately. I need to turn the ignition key several times until it starts. Each time when I turn the key, a clicking sound happens...

it sounds like either your having a short at the starter or the ignition switch is bad, I am leaning towards the issue being the starter, usually when the ignition switch is going bad there will be no click,
