Question about 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor

1 Answer

My 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor is overheating, I noticed it last night when I turn the fan on to high heat the gauge will drop to a normal temperature. I checked the fluid level that?s ok, and opened the radiator, it has flow, bubbles - however it has flow. What is my next step?

Changing gears and the temp gauge have nothing in common. First, check the coolant level. If gets low an air pocket in the engine will cause the gauge to go high, then back to normal. Next would be to check the wiring. could be the gauge/sensor wire is shorting to ground.

Yes. A/C with force both fans on. Otherwise one will only turn on if the coolant temperature is high enough to trigger the coolant fan sensor.

Hi,

The overheating and lack of cabin heat both point to a failed engine thermostat which would be stuck closed. At the warm up stage, the coolant stays in the engine block to bring the engine to efficient operating temperature, then it opens and circulates the coolant through the radiator and heat core. If the thermostat is stuck closed, the engine will overheat, and coolant will never reach the heater core, and you will not get cabin heat.

Blinking oil light at idle which goes away during driving could be a low oil level, but may also be a drop in oil pressue. You could have a clogged oil fliter (at best) pickup tube, or a failing oil pump.

Last night, I was driving...only 25-35 miles an hour and I noticed that my heat wasn't getting hot, but did notice that my car was overheating (temp gauge was high). What would be the problem?

I had this problem a while ago and it turned out I didn't have any coolant, it was leaking. Check your coolant level, that would be the first thing to try.

The thermostat may be wearing out. A thermostat controls the engine temperature to keep it at a consistent temperature, The other fan will probably turn on if you turn on your Air Conditioner.

Hi,

Lot of possible reasons. Some of them very stupid, even though I mention it here, sorry:

1. Thermostat regulating the cooling fluid flow - works correct?
2. Enough cooling fluid? Not leaking from somewhere?
3. Level of engine oil? Its quality? (If dirty or low oil, heat can not spreed into oil - oil is cooling subsatnce as well. If low oil level - you know what, engine is not lubricated etc.)
4. Water pump works correct? No pump, no water circulation.
5. Any dirt in the water circulation system? Piece of rock, shred of rag, maybe some sediments (can figure out only after disassembling the system = lot of garage work).

I had one friend who complained about his mazda MX3 quick overheating. My first question was, if there is cooling fluid and he told me "Of course!!! - I was in the garage yeasterday evening and fluid was refilled." The engine was hot and smoking badly after 3 mins of calm slow ride. Next day he called me with curious finding - there was no cooling fluid at all, was leaking out from the radiator. Thanks for contacting Fixya.
