Hi there:
Possible ground wire fault with dash board unit. If it is a cable operated spedo, the cable end (small square cap) may be rounding off on one end.

Check the plug at the cluster, if it is ok then travel to your nearest GM dealer and ask them to see if there is a software update addressing your issue.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

The tachometer on my 2007 vmax has stopped working. Seems like a fuel pump or relay problem. Have you got any suggestions?

Why would you think the fuel pump or relay would cause this, no that is not going to be the problem, more than likely the tachometer is defective, nothing more nothing less.

Kinda vague on the vehicle description, But I would go for the crank sensor first. This will cause the tachometer to stop working, Also cause a misfire(As it controls the spark) and engine power loss.

The speedometer and tachometer problem on your Trailblazer instrument cluster is very common on the 03-06 models. It's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and can be fixed. Check out this page for more on how to get it fixed - Trailblazer tachometer problems

I would venture a guess that your alternator went bad and it was running on the battery. Since the alternator couldn't replenish the battery it's probably dead now. Did you try to start it after you parked it?

What would cause the tach to stop working?

there is a tiny DC motor (called a stepper motor) that moves the tach needle, they cause the problem most times

2006 suburban oil pressure gauge fluxuating

Most likely it's the oil sending sensor, located beside the oil filter. You can change it, just be sure to have old newspaper or rags laying around the area where you will work, because a little oil will be lost. The part isn't expensive, for mine on a Ford Expedition was around $35 and took 5 minutes to change. Just un-plug the connector going to the sensor, and a larger wrench will be needed, large (7/8, 15/16) somewhere in that range of size.
