Was any of the previous spark plugs fouled? Dirty? If so you need to investigate whether the problem is oil or fuel causing the fouling. Also a possibility is that you have a bad plug wire and when you changed plugs you disrupted the plug wire enough to make contact. Now possibly the plug wire is showing too much resistance causing a misfire at idle. Only way to be sure is to have the car scoped to see if the wires are proper or defective. That is unless you are the change parts and try type. In that case try a new set of wires. The reason is because at idle the voltage is not as high as it would be at higher rpm.

HI!!!!!! if you try all this you say ... th efirst thing i woul do is take of the fuel filter is under drver side blow one side the one goes to the engine if you have problem blow in the filter this has to be clog o dyrty inside the filter now the crank posicon sensor follow the wire is only one connects to ignicion control module it goes to the left side of the engine some times on top of the oil pan. becareful dont get confuse w/ the oil sending unit

Check the distributor module (ICM), it may have gone bad and needs to be replaced. It's around $40.00 and it's under the rotor in the distributor assembly. Check the red lead wire to the HEI for voltage, there should be 12 volts. It common for the ICM to fail on the HEI system and if you go to Auto Zone, they can give you the step by step instructions to replace the ICM. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

What does your spark plug look like when you took it out? Was it black/fouled out? If so, you may have bad rings on that piston/cylinder allowing crankcase oil into your cyclinder, thus fouling out your plug.
The next time it won't start ,pull a sparkplug wire and see if you're getting fire. Then we'll known whether its a ignition or fuel problem and go from there.

if the car is running does it have the check engine light on? if yes what is the code if no then check to see if temp sensor is reading the right temp by plugging in a scanner that can read all data to give you an accurate reading... if it reads wrong temp it can cause running issues
