Sounds like a faulty ignition coil or two causing missfire/shaking/loss of power and with unburnt fuel potentionally causing damage to the cat, has put the eml light on

Emission light stays on Porsche Boxster

You will need the system scanned. See dealer/specialist who have the tool to do this. Maybe air mass sensor, vapour sep issue or oxygen sensor. Fault should be logged in event history, so should not be too hard to pin point cause.

Check engine light on?

Is it a manual or auto? Assuming its a manual, is there an ABS light on? If so or if you hace changed the brake pads recently or even had the tires off or rotated, there could be a problem in the brake pad sensor or abs wheel speed sensor.

Check with Porsche service (your closest dealer) for recalls or TSB (Technical Service Bulletins) related to your concern and check the cayman/boxster owners clubs for similar posts and resolutions.

Hope that helps.

1999 Porsche Boxster Check Engine Light

Take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer. Most parts stores will do the scan for free. I wouldn't think that the two issues are related. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Yes. It may have a weak magnet on it. Otherwise it would be the ignition or control module. Try replacing key first.
