If its not turning over and there is no noise then it sounds like the starter motor.. check for power at the large connector on the starter should be battery voltage and then check power on the small terminal when someone is turning the key to start it. if this is good then the starter needs replacing.

SOURCE: 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5S, Check Engine Light Problem.

this problem could be caused by the mass air flow censor, i had the same problem with my car. it is really pricey at the dealer so you might want to check elsewhere for this part. I found one at a scrap yard for 85% less that the dealer and i also got life time warranty, the dealer does not offer any warranty on this part.

First of all, you'll have to clarify which belt it is you're talking about. Is it a SERPENTINE drive belt or a Timing belt? Two totally different belts.
If its a timing belt, you're in luck as Nissan Altimas have timing chains on the engines which shouldn't need replacing for at the very least 100,000 miles. If you're talking about the serpentine drive belt on the other hand, there's really only one way it can go over the pulleys. One side of the belt it grooved, and one side is smooth. There's only one way it can go over all of the pulleys while having the grooved face sitting on grooved pulley surfaces,... should be really easy to figure out.

SOURCE: 2003 nissan altima airbag blinking

On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident. Most systems can only be diagnosed using a scanner designed for the airbag system, however some use flash codes to indicate the problem. The scanners at Auto Zone or the ones that sell for @ $50 will not access the airbag system, only the engine systems (check engine light).
This website gives you the procedure for diagnosing and resetting some systems without a scanner. Some vehicle manufacturers accommodate that (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) and some require a scan tool. http://www.airbagsolutions.com/

My 2003 nissan will not start. the engine turns over but it won't start or it acts like it about to start and cuts off. i know i need a new battery. could there be a problem with my starter

Then replace the battery first, yes, but if the engine stops turning over the starter may have a problem as well. Start with one thing at a time though so you narrow down what the exact problem is and don't replace more than is necessary. If it was just the starter having a problem often you'd hear a noise from it like a spinning sound or clicking sound but the engine wouldn't move.

Crank sensors on 2003 nissan altima 2.5

there are two and they caused me all kinds of hell when i had my altima. one is center right side of the engine. it looks like a small plug. the other is further down on the left of the engine. it looks almost like a rechargable battery with a circle on the top. they cost me 30 a piece at any foreign parts store.
