Question about 2000 Renault 181
Check voltage output from back of alternator it should read 14 volts if it doesn't replace alternator, first check all connections.

Sounds like the brushes in the regulator are sticking. If you are able to remove the alternator & then the regulator from the alternator you might find claening will correct the fault but i suspect an alternator might be the final result.
