Question about 1997 Dodge Dakota

2002 Dodge Dakota Alarm irratic

I just bought a 2002 used Dodge Dakota. Yesterday, I left the keys in the ignition, windows down, and walked around the vehicle. While walking around I heard a small sound from the horn. I didn't think anything about it. BUT when I went to open the car door (and it wasn't locked) the alarm went off. Then just now, I tested it by taking the keys out and walking away from the truck and waited till I heard the horn make the small honk and then walked back and opened the door (it wasn't locked) and the alarm went off again. Also yesterday I dropped a friend off at Target to pick up something, I sat in the truck with the Key on and listened to the radio, doors unlocked. When my friend came back and went to open the door, the alarm went off again. Any idea what the problem is???

SOURCE: Car won't start. Believe kill switch is engaged.

Do you have a chipped key {small black thing in the middle of the key} if not you need to take your registration into the dealer and order a new key.

SOURCE: Alarm system

you might want to get a new key from dealer, just make sure you turn key all the way when you unlock. if this does it again, just start the vehicle for a quick fix.

No i do not think you have electrical problem, try this.

Car in Park
Key on
push and hold unlock on good remote for 5 to 10 seconds
while holding unlock, press and hold panic, then release together
Listen for chime
press and release any button on all remote to be programmed.

If this will not work you need to bring the Vin# and remote to a dealer for reprogramming.

the key fob disables the alarm when you unlock it. either get a key fob or disconnect the alarm.

1998 dodge durango. used to have an alarm, I dont have a remote. Alarm should be disabled. truck is acting like its alarm is going off. Ignition is locked. wont turn over

close all the doors and lock them. Try unlocking the passenferside door. See if that esets the alarm. If not let one of the windows down lock the doors and with the key left on disconnect the battery than reconnect it. Reach in the car throw the window and get in, Turn the key off than try starting it. Hope this helps. Leave comment.

Keyfob on my 05 dakota quad was working intermittantly then stopped altogether. I replaced the battery and it still does nothing. My truck is locked and I know the alarm will sound if i just use the key to...

The alarm should turn off when you put the key into the ignition.

Also, check to make sure that the metal circle that you put the battery in is not loose. It should not wiggle much at all. If it does wiggle, it will need to be re-soldered onto the fob's electrical board.

Hope this helps!

I have 2001 doge dakota and left ignition on and

Not sure but you may have a radio that needs a code input. the radio thinks it was taken out and a code needs to be put back in at the proper time. if you bought the truck new it should be in oners manual. if not you have to get it from a dealer. you may have to pay for it.
