1997 Ford Escort dies/sputters during acceleration...

My 1997 Ford Escort dies or sputters during acceleration. It does not sound like a vacuum leak. Also, when I start the car and turn on the a/c, it completely dies. The spark plugs have been changed as well as the wires. The air filter is installed properly. What could be causing this?

The car has almost 150,000 original miles on it. The fuel filter has been replaced twice since it started doing this. I'm lost...

Could the fuel pump screen be dirty?

Sounds more like the fuel pump is starting to fail. If you got 150,000 on the factory fuel pump, it will need to be replaced.

The car could probably use a tune-up. Also, check both ends of the PCV line for soft/deteriorated elbows as a vacuum leak here would cause the car to die at idle.

Engin starts revs to 2500 then drops and dies, also brakes very difficult to come to a complete stop.

This sounds like a bad vacuum leak, the brake system uses vacuum to power the brakes, if theres not enough vacuum to brake booster then the pedal will be hard to push and stop the car, open the hood and start and listen for a hissing sound, follow vacuum leaks and look for broken or aff vacuum lines. hope this helps.

My truck is sputtering. when i try to accelerate is does it in short less than a second spurts. i have replaced the fuel filter. my truck also makes a hissing sound

Sounds like a vacuum hose leak or intake leak..Get a can of brake kleen and spray around the intake and hoses and see if the idle changes.

Car wants to turn off unless i accelerate it

try replacing your transmission fluid to ease up the drive, might as well try replacing the sparkplugs for better fuel burning.
