1993 ford ranger won't Idle right

1993 ford ranger, started this problem all of the sudden where it won't idle right, if you are idling or coming to a stop, it will idle real low and shut off, or it will kick in and jump the rpms way up settle, drop low again and repeat one of the two processes.

Changed the gas filter, spark plugs, O2 sensor, had a guy hook up a computer to it to read the codes, installed a new computer in the truck and tried to read the codes again, nothing showed up.

What in the world to do next?

    Well, I tried the intake cleaner thing, twice, and it doesn't seem to be improving any. Any other suggestions?

Well it could be the ports inside the throttle body for the mass air sensor being dirty (black smoke out the tailpipe would be a sure sign of that)
but I had this exact problem on a 90 ranger (owner thought it was on cruse control but it did not have one) and it turned out to be oil mist inside the throttle posisition sensor (i cracked it open)
(about 30 bucks ) and no I've never been sucessfull at cleaning them out
faulty sensor was telling computer your foot was in it but that was not true (your foot stayed on the brake)

by the way the oil mist was caused by a clogged pcv valve found that too

I am a Ford dealer Tech and this is what cures this issue most of the time.

, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

One possibility is a buildup of dirt and sludge in and around the idle air control valve. The buildup causes the idle air valve to stick.

Hello:;
This sounds like a fuel problem at the carb. What it's doing is termened hunting a nd can generally be corrected by a simple adjustment of the carb. Engine at idle and neutral set rpms at lowest idle , around 640 rpms. then adjust the a/f ratio screws to balance carb. Screw both screws all the way in, do not force ,or needle and sear damage will occir. Now back each out to 1.5 turns That is your start point Adjust one screw in and out slowly until you you feel its best effact on ide whicjh should slightly increase. repeat with other screw, in and out slowly . listening to the engine idle. if idle has increase due to your adjustmebt, repwat process after lowering the idle speed again with the idle screw. When you get to the point the screws no longer affect the idle the engine show sound and run smoothly at idle, make sure you resert the idle to 650rpms for an automatic trans and 650-750 for manual trans. I hoped this helped- good luck.. If it still does it, the carb may nrrd the float checked and st.
