Question about 1993 Mercury Sable

1 Answer

My 1993 sable will not crank over. It was running just fine, then just like that, it would not start. Auto parts store tested battery and it was fine. I can hear a noise that sounds like the solinoid trying to kick but the engine does not crank. Any suggestions? Also, where is solinoid located? Thanks, JIM

Remove the starter tested and have it tested., sounds like that may be the problem here.

So I have 94 Pontiac Grand Prix that was starting just fine yesterday and try to start it today and nothing it won't turn over won't start I turn the key and I have power but won't turn over or start

Hey Julie,
Sounds like the battery has gone bad....
The battery can have 12 volts..enough to run the interior lights..etc. but not have the amperage to crank your car.. (amperage is what "pushes" the voltage) ..without amperage, voltage won't do much.. Take the battery to the local battery store and have the CCA (cold cranking amps) checked... or find one of these stores that will be glad to help check your battery...

check all battery connections are good and clean and tight if they are and that is not the problem. Try jumping battery with cables if it starts it will usually be a bad battery or alternator or starter moter,.check voltage at battery should be 13 volts or better. If less charge battery load test battery or take it to auto parts store and have it load tested. if battery is good check voltage with car running it should be between 13.5 and 15 if lower or higher voltage check belt on alternator (if lower voltage). If voltage is high or low and belt is ok remove alternator and have tested at any parts store .It is usually free. If none of these items check bad Remove starter motor and have it tested . again free at most auto parts stores.n If this was helpful please leave good feed back

I have a 1993 gmc safari that takes awhile to crank up what could be the cause of that?

Anything from low cold starting amps in the battery to an aging starter. A lot of auto part stores, such as autozone, will test your battery and starter for free.

2001 mercury sable will run but won't charge and no batttery indicator light in dash will not light

If it runs you have one of 2 issues. 1. The battery is bad and the alternator isn't able to keep it charged (you will have to jump start it every time the motor is shut off). 2. Your alternator is bad and the battery is running the car (when battery is drained car will stop running) which is my belief as the battery light only comes on when the alternator isnt charging. Have the charging system tested at your local AutoZone/Advanced Auto parts store they normally do it for free.

Whenever, you replace a battery, it is a good idea to have the alternator checked to make sure that it is producing enough amperage to run the vehicle and charge the battery.

Suggest you take your car to an auto parts store and ask them to test your alternator under load. That is the most likely problem, your alternator.

Trouble starting

I would check the connections to the battery, then take it to an auto parts store or auto service center to test the condition of the battery and to test the starter. If the battery is good then the starter could be going bad if the starter takes too much amperage when cranking the engine and doesn't turn at a normal rate of speed.

Car cranks but will not cold cranks easily

your battery might not have enough cold cranking amps to get your motor running. consider upgrading to a stronger battery. but first take your current battery to a auto parts store and have a load test done on it.
