Why wont my truck wont start?

Truck is a 351 Windsor v8...H.O. ...HAS the mechanical fuel pump which I have changed out twice....Seems like the carburetor isn't getting fuel. Is there a fuel pump relay?

There is probably a filter screen where the gas comes into the carb. Remove the gas line and the nut it screws into on the carb to find the screen.

The inlet line to the carb has a screen filter, but the float needle often had a rubber tip. The new fuel has alchohol and that dissolves rubber. Your needle valve can be stuck and blocking the fuel from entering the carburetor. Also, there is a difference in gasket material for new versus old fuel. The old style black gasket material will swell and block the carburetor passages. The newer gasket material is sometimes blue in color. This gasket material is compatible with gasohol.

There is also a part in the front of some Holley carbs called a "power valve" or "accelerator pump". It is a rubber diaphram inside a chamber with 4 screws and mounted to a rod or lever directly attached to the accelerator connector plate.

there is a power valve. I was wondering what it does. It almost looks like a button.

Now suddenly when i remove the fuel line from the carb...then crank it over to see if fuel squirts from the line...i get NOTHING. Now i am real confused. lol. Can the crank shaft be broke causing my problem? Should i do something with the accelerator pump? I am at a loss.

Can this valve you mentioned be the issue? If so, what can i do?Like i said, it looks like a hard rubber type button on the front of the carb.

If you have a mechanical pump, there should not be a fuel relay. But they did use an ignition relay in the early days of Electronic ignition.

There is a chance that you installed the fuel pump and missed the camshaft operating lobe. The lobe pushes the fuel pump arm up and down.

But if the timing chain broke, the camshaft lobe would not be turning to operate the fuel pump lever. You should lift off the distributor cap and see if the rotor turns when the engine cranks over.

Sometimes a mechanic would measure fuel pump efficiency by putting a rubber hose onto a fitting and substituting this tester in place of the original carburetor line.

Also check the fuel filter under the vehicle. There may have been no problem with any pump, just a clogged fuel filter.

that fixed the pump issue...i appreciate it. I just didnt have the arm in the right place. However, it still acts like the carb. is not getting fuel. Cranks over, but no fuel evidently. I tested the pump...its pumping between the tank and pump..Maybe the carb. is clogged or messed up?Should be gas going to carb.

Could the fuel filter be clogged up at the carb? Thats the only thing i can think of.

I pour gas directly into the carb...to prime it...it runs for a second or 2 then quits...

I had the same problem with My 1990 F150 300 6cylinder 4x4.....I cahnged all the same things you did, finally I sprayed a can of Gumout through the throttle body and it worked and ran great. Now I add fuel injector cleaner to the gas and a regular clean with the gumout and the problem has'nt come back. Good Luck to you and hope it works!

SOURCE: 1991 ford f-150 fuel pump will not come on

remember the switch only gets power for 1 second when u turn the key on, the common problem is the ignition starter switch comes apart, it is located at top of the steering column near the bottom, drop the column down (2 nuts) and inspect the switch for separation.

SOURCE: i am not getting power to my fuel pump

on a lot of ford products there is a switch that goes from the fuel pump to the inside of one of the bedsides.
what this is, is a shock switch that turns the fuel pump off if it absorbs a hit.
its a really dumb safety feature but its effective.
there is a red button on it that u have to press to make it active again.
sometimes they just trip for no reason.

Why would my 88 f250 econoline van not switch tanks completely and can the switch be replaced with a manual valve

The fuel pump may be starting to go bad, when you get below half a tank, the pump does not submerge in fuel as much to keep it cool and it will seize up and stall the motor. You will need to replace the pump and check inside the bottom of the tank for small metal bits that almost look like shiny sand.

I have a 1965 food falcon with a mustang 302 (1978 ) v8. how do i know if it is a windsor or not?

Well there is a 302 cleveland, they are mainly an Australian engine. Identifying one is much like telling the difference between a 351 windsor and a 351 cleveland. Based on the fact that it's from Ford's 335 engine family. 8 cap screws to hold on the valve covers, the block is longer do to the timing chain housing being integrated. The fuel pump bolts are mounted vertically, and the exhaust bolt holes are diagonal. Also, a big difference between an american 302 and an aussie 302 cleveland, is the connecting rods for the cleveland are 6.000''. Where the american 302 connecting rod length is 5.090". Also, referring to a 302 as a windsor is incorrect, it's block families name is the 90 degree v8. The only engine in that family that is properly named the windsor, is the 351 windsor. The 90 degree family also includes the 302 boss. The boss has cleveland style heads, and the block has screw in freeze plugs.
