Question about 1988 Honda Accord 4 Door

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Honda Civic that is using too much gas and oil.

I have a 1997 Honda Civic that is up to date with all its maintenance and until recently ran great. Now the gas mileage has dropped significantly. It's down from 600km/tank to barely 300km. I have to add a litre of oil almost every two fill-ups. Can't see any leaks on the ground or residue on the engine. Also don't notice any blue smoke from the exhaust. Now in warm weather, it idles so loud I can hear it over construction work and without touching the gas, it will accelerate from a dead stop up a hill. The throttle valve was replaced but that hasn't helped. Any ideas as to what needs fixing?

I have 2007 honda civic and need to reset the service light?

  1. Edit Step 15 ¶ When it's time to change the oilin your Civic, the maintenance light (orange wrench) will appear on your dash, as well as a B1 message, showing an oil life of 15% or less. To reset the Oil Life % gauge, press and hold the SEL/RESET button for about 10 seconds until the Oil Life message begins to flash.

Tip

Civic, Prelude, and Acura (Honda) Integra maintenance light reset.

On the typical Honda gauge layout, there is a small, rectangular, recessed button directly to the left of the "Maintenance Required" light. Using a key, you can press this button in, With the key off, hold down the trip meter reset button. turn the key on and continue holding the reset button in until the maintenance light goes off, about 10 seconds. which will cause the light to turn green. The maintenance light (at least on Civic) will come on about every 4000 miles if not reset (for oil changes), and also periodically for other scheduled maintenance.

It means the car thinks it needs an oil change. Has the oil been changed recently? If not it is probably due. If the oil has been changed recently let me know and i'll let you know haw to reset it.

What type of oil do i use for 1997 honda civic?

Hi. This particular engine will accept 5w- 30 or 5w - 20(synthetic blend).

The total capacity level(including the filter) will be 3 1/2 Quarts. Do not fill above this amount.

Car using excessive gas

Has it had a recent tune up? Spark Plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, eng. oil, pcv, fuel injection. Believe it or not makes a big difference with something as simple as that.

It'll be appreaciated if anybody knows how to reset maintenance minder for 09' Honda Civic.

It may not be the same for a Civic, but for a 09 Accord:
1. Turn ignition to ON (II) position
2. Press select/reset (odometer) knob until engine oil life indicator displayed
3. Press knob about 10 sec, until oil life & maint code items blink
4. Press knob another 5 secs, until code disappears & engine oil life resets to 100%

If this isn't right for you, the procedure should be indicated in your manual.

Hope this helps.

Oil filter in civic 97

If you go to a reputable motor factor,
you can only be sold the correct filter for the civic.
As there are soo many variables in engine type, it's almost impossible to tell, oil volume, or which type filter.
However, I will say, be sure that you don't mix semi-synthetic oil, and mineral oil.
Oil changes should be undertaken every 30,000 miles, (unless under extra work load, (in which case, slightly more regularly))

Otherwise, 10/40 or 15/40 grade oil, is perfectly fine.
The trick to not overfilling the oil, is simply just to take your time, clean the dip stick and retry, until you have the correct reading.

Please don't forget to rate:)

My honda civic 98 hx m4va transmition type, the trans drives fine exept when gearing up I can't feel when shifting and rpms goes up and down,I replace the transmition and still doing the same, also when...

I have a 1998 Civic HX 2DR as well and mine also takes a moment to engage when you press the gas. I don't know if this is normal or not? I just bought the car and I need to replace the trans fluid only because I don’t know if there is Honda oil or another brand in it. The CVT transmissions only can use Honda's CVT oil. There is a recommend alternative oil but based on the manual it’s only for temporary use until you can replace it with the Honda oil otherwise it will cause damage to the transmission over time.

Have power and accessories until key is turned to start

U will need to replace the ignition switch, this is not the key cylinder but the actual electrical switch the key cylinder operated. see photo. I noted that on your model Honda the switch comes with a new key cylinder, you can just use the switch and use your old cylinder over or install the new parts together.
