The fuel tank sending unit is defective in your van, this has nothing to do with the fuel pump going out, this was a 100% incorrect statement by the shop that said this, but do understand that if you pull the fuel tank to repair the defective sender for the gas guage u might as well replace the fuel pump which also is in the fuel tank, they (the pump) are are getting worn out at about the miles you have on this car.

I have a 2002 Pontiac Aztekit wouldn't start after I stopped at the station been told it was the fuel pump but where did start at all if the fuel pump was actually the problem

the fuel pump maybe bad with the armature in the pump sticking giving the start and short running. check fuel pressure with a gage is the only way to know for sure.

2000 Camaro fuel pump/ fuel filter/ and fuel pressure regulator all replaced, still no gas getting to the motor.. mechanic is stumped, don't know what it is.. my car started getting harder than normal to...

i can tell your mech is not ASE pro. not at all.
guessing is for squids.
a pro uses his tools.
he didnt now you are broke, find a real ASE mech, and save $$$
so what was the fuel pressure.

if the pressure (generic answer) at the rails is not 30 psi
and your mech cant figure that out, fire him.
dont argue with him, just move on.
if the pressure is good at the rail and 1PSI (squirt tests are useless) then check the pumps stall shunt pressure.
if at spec the regulator is leaking.
if the pump fails the shunt test its is weak.
check for 12v key on for 3 seconds in to said pump.
if 12v dont land there, bingo now power.
sorry 8v is no good, 12 or as low as 11v lowest there, at the pump.
the pump is not running full time the ECU prevent that and the
TV crash and burn issue. it runs for 3 seconds each keyon.
some older cars, only have pump voltage cranking.
read the FSM , its all there, including all the test and all these pressures, .

sorry your mech, sux, truely ! i am sorry for you.
find the ASE badge on his /her sleeve, see that>\?
no? the Walkonbye. (pun included )

2001 chevy blazer replaced fuel pump with fuel pick up switch and fues guage still does not work

THERE SHOULD BE 3 WIRES, FROM PUMP/SENDER UNIT, 1 WIRE FOR PUMP POWER, 1 WIRE FOR GROUND, & 1 WIRE FOR FUEL GAGE, THE FUEL GAGE WIRE GOES DIRECTLY TO GAGE , INSPECT THIS WIRE , MAY CHANGE COLOR ON ITS WAY TO GAGE, WIRE MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED UNDER TRUCK, ALONG FRAME RAIL, OR HAS BECOME CORRODED, A BUMP IN THE WIRE INSULATION(CORROSION), ALSO, CHECK ALL GROUNDS, REPEAT, ALL GROUNDS TO FUEL PUMP CICUIT, EVEN IF THEY LOOK OK, THEY COULD BE BAD GROUNDS, YOU NEED GOOD GROUNDS TO COMPLETE ANY CIRCUIT !!! 2001 TRUCK, I'D QUESTION YOURS !!!!! WHAT SHAPE WAS YOUR WIRE HARNESS @ PUMP, THEY GO BAD, ANYTHING UNDER THE TRUCK !!!!!! STAY IN YOUCH, LIKE TO KNOW OUTCOME !

89 ford taurus, had to have the fuel pump replaced, now the gas gauge doesn't work. The garage says they didn't cause this. Is that true? (It worked before the repair)

In order to replace the fuel pump the gas tank has to be removed from the car. Both the pump and the gas gage are located in the tank. They probable didn't reconnect the wires going to the gas gage. I guess it is possible that they didn't have anything to do with it and it just happened to go bad while they were working on your car. Not likely but possible.

Driving normal, at 80 kms, car seems to studder a bit, (gas wise) engine light comes on. Stop car, re-start, everything fine, no engine light, at 60 kms, fine, get up to 80 km, engine light comes on and...

First try replacing air filter if not done recently $30, next consider bad fuel put in fuel from major oil company from station with many patrons. Then you need to look at fuel delivery system including fuel filter and furl pump. But first try the 2 things mentioned.

sounds like somone has a garden hose in your tank personaly i would check the fuel tank ground
it is likely the reason your gage doesnt work
once gage works you can properly monitor fuel use

Fuel gage not working .Gage goes up and down even when full of gas. Any suggestion, 180,000 km thanks Tony

The sending unit is bad and it is internal to the fuel tank. Does not appear to be available separately but only available with the fuel pump as a complete unit. Bad news... it is quite expensive. Two part suppliers I've checked run from $286 to $321 (depending on the warranty), plus you'll have to drop the fuel tank to install it or pay to have it done. Might be a tough decision to decide if it's worth repair or just to live with it.

Fuel level sensor in tank bad????

Yes it is all one unit, and yes that is what the problem is. don't use aftermarket parts, use OEM, (Delco Remy) they are much better quality.
