Engine ticking sound when engine is cold. sound is much quieter after driving for 10 minutes or so.

The ticking sound when the engine is cold could indicate worn lifters. It could also be caused by a timing belt slap when the engine is cold, when the belt heats up the sound goes away. If you have low oil pressure when you hear the ticking sound it could indicate a bad oil pump. Another possibility is valve lash when it is cold - all of these conditions will disappear when the engine heats up. The ticking is more likely to come from the valve train or the lifters - unfortunately these are not items you can easily check on your own unless you are a skilled mechanic. It is better to take it to a mechanic, tell them what you think it may be and ask them to look specifically at those items.

Ticking/reluctant start 05 f-150 5.4L

Ok... I'd do this. Drain all the oil from the crankcase, and refill with the EXACT amount of oil as specified by the makers handbook. Now withdraw the dipstick and note the level the oil now comes to.Mark this point with a scriber or file and always top up only to this level. Now we know the oil level is correct. If the noise still persists, get a can of Winns Tune-up and follow the diections. This will flush your valve lifter and make them operate as they should. If this doesn't fix it, you may have mechanical problem inside the engine.

I have a 2005 dodge neon sxt, in the morning when I start it up I hear a loud knocking noise from the engine but after about 15 seconds it gets softer but is still there all day when I'm driving around.

It is probably your lifters sticking. Check your engine oil level and if thats fine, then add some oil detergent/additive that says it will "reduce engine knock and free sticky lifters" run with that additive for a couple hundred miles or until the noise gets better. then replce your oil after that without using the additive

My 2005 chevy cobalt factory radio is locked

There are only 2 things you can try to fix this yourself: turn off the engine and open the driver side door (to turn the radio off). Wait 5 minutes, start your car.
If that does not solve it, turn off your engine, disconnect the car battery, wait about 5 minutes. Reconnect the battery (negative pole first - black connector) and try your radio again.

If neither one of these two fix your problem, I am afraid only a GM service center or dealership can fix the problem. The Cobalt is notorious for all kinds of electrical issues.

Thanks for using the fixya forums!

Ticking noise

It is part of the waste gate just above the gas tank. It periodically checks for leaks and pressurizes and releases. Gives a ticking noise when it does this. Not a problem and GM is aware of this and said its normal on our cars.
