Question about Ford Tempo

I have a 1993 Ford Tempo and am having problems removing the motor from the door. I already have the door panel removed and the power disconnected from the motor.

Remove the door panel and check to make sure the linkage to the lock assembly is still attached. I can't give an estimate because I don't know what is wrong at this point

are the locks manual or electric?i have seen most electric locks freeze up because of rust/.corrosion.the rubber accordian seal fails and moisture does it's job.there is no lubrication on the's basically a push pull magnet tube with a spiral grooved actuator rod.this is to assure no accidental vibration/jar induced movement.also means very difficult to budge when corroded.i have gotten a few to move by grabbing lock post with pliers and pulling hard.good luck!

Rear Door Window Regulator and Motor
Removal and Installation
Remove the rear door trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
Remove the door mounted speaker.
Remove the watershield.
NOTE:The glass must be lowered for this step.

NOTE:Some vehicles may use rivets to attach the glass to the regulator.

Remove the bolt that attaches the glass to the regulator.
Raise and support the rear door window glass to the full up position.

NOTE:Do not detach the door handle from the latch cable during this step.

Remove the rear inside door handle.
Remove the screw.
Disengage the inside door handle from the door.
If equipped, disconnect the power door lock rod from the back of the inside door handle.

Gain access to the power window motor electrical connector located in the front of the door.

Disconnect the power window motor electrical connector.
Press down on the connector tab.
Pull the connector upward and remove through the speaker opening in the door.
Disconnect the rear door window regulator and motor assembly from the door.
Remove the nuts.
Remove the screws.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

    Tricky to find bolts are under end flaps on door close handgrips. Took
    me a day to figure that one out. Others under light at lip of back of
    door. Book indicates to strart with window 3/4 up if you can. Flip up
    window control at rear of panel. After all screws are out raise outer
    edge of armrest and look for notches 4" and 11-1/2" from rear of
    armrest to slide inward to remove. There are screws under the door
    handle too. Screws everwhere. When pulling bottom of panel from door
    lift with a notched bar to avoid tearing the fasteners out of the
    cardboard panel. Two screws behind seatbelt notch at top need to come
    out to allow positioning the glass. The panel at the bottom of the top
    opening can be removed for more fredom in positioning the glass when
    reinserting the ball in the lower track on the window. Tape glass with
    duct tape to keep it from falling. Drill the factory rivets that hold
    the old regulator and I replaced with stove bolts with nylon locknuts
    slotted head to the inside the car. Can't remember the size, probably
    1/4 or 3/16". Remove speaker if in front bottom of door to use your
    hand to do work in the door. You must twist the regulator forward with
    window 1/2 down to remove the ball from the socket in the bottom
    sliding metal track at the bottom of the window. Don't drop the window
    after removing the socket, tape it in place. Don't know what you do if
    you cannot move it to 1/2 up position. By the way, the body shops say
    you must use rivets, not screws or it will shift, but I have had no
    problems with the screws for reinstallation several years old. The
    rivet they use take a big hydraulic pop rivet gun that you won't have.
    Good luck, I don't envy you. Need to do other window on my 91. The
    window control may not be the same on the Custom, mine is the Ltd. you
    may be able to remove the motor from the regulator in the door without
    removing the regulator if you can figure out how to get the bolts that
    hold the moter to the regulator. inside the door.

Less Air Conditioning

  1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
  2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  3. Remove screws securing right ventilator control cable to instrument panel.
  4. Remove screw securing right register duct to lower right edge of instrument panel.
  5. Remove glove box and hinge bar from instrument panel.
  6. Pull right register duct from installed position between air inlet duct and right register opening, Fig. 10.
  7. Remove ventilator grille from bottom of ventilator assembly, then screws securing right ventilator assembly to blower housing.
  8. Remove hub clamp spring from blower wheel hub, Fig. 11.
  9. Pull blower wheel from blower shaft, then remove three blower motor flange attaching screws.
  10. Pull blower motor from housing, disconnect electrical connector, then remove motor from vehicle.
  11. Reverse procedure to install.
  12. On models equipped with airbag, rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
With Air Conditioning

  1. On models equipped with airbag, disarm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
  2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  3. Remove glove box door and instrument panel lower reinforcement from instrument panel.
  4. Disconnect blower motor electrical connector, then remove blower motor and mounting plate from evaporator housing.
  5. Rotate motor until mounting plate flats clear edge of glove box opening, then remove motor.
  6. Remove hub clamp wheel spring from blower wheel hub and remove blower wheel from motor shaft.
  7. Reverse procedure to install.
  8. On models equipped with airbag, rearm airbag system as described underMAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.

1993 Ford Tempo rear doors won't open. Electric door locks do not work on either of the two front door panel switces but the front door locks can be manually operated. The back doors cannot be opened from...

This is most likly a fuse problem. Check your fuses that say doors on the diagram. If you have o diagram then pull one fuse at a time and look to see if the wire inside is burnt or broken. Replace if it is. If not then replace the fuse back to the same spot and move to the next fuse. If you find one that is burnt then replace with same amp type fuse. There may be more then one that has burnt so go ahead and check them all. Keep me informed and I will continue other trouble shooting ideas if this did not fix the problem, Good Luck, The Raz

How do you clear the service engine light on a 1993 ford tempo?

simple. remove the positive (or negative) battery cable for about 10 seconds.
bigger problem is why it's coming on in the first place- but most of the time it's simple- go to an autozone or other parts store and they can likely help you determine what's the problem. Then you can decide if you want to do it yourself or hire it done.

First disconnect the battery. After that, find the starter (should be bottom right). Remove the wires from the starter making sure you remember where they go. Remove the two bolts that hold it in place (one on top, one on bottom). Reverse all of this to put the new one in.

I need help replacing a 1993 Ford Tempo Window motor. I already have the panels removed and I need to remove the motor to put in a new one.

You will have to drill hose to gain access to the three 8mm bolts holding the motors tor the regulators. I use a 9/16 hole saw where the three dimples are on the door. The dimples should line up with where the bolts are,but sometimes they are off a little. I hope this helps.

Door Glass, Front Removal
  1. Remove door trim panel and watershield. Refer to Section 01-05. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: Prior to removing center pins from the rivet, it is recommended that a suitable block support be inserted between door outer panel and glass bracket to stabilize glass during rivet removal. Remove center pin from each rivet with a drift punch. Using a 1/4-inch diameter drill, drill out remaining rivets as damage to plastic glass retainer and spacer could result.
  1. Remove two rivets attaching glass to run and bracket assembly.
  1. Remove glass.
  1. Remove drillings and pins from bottom of door.
  1. Snap plastic retainer and spacer into two glass retainer holes. Make certain that metal washer in the retainer assembly is on outboard side of glass.
  1. Insert glass into door.
  1. Position glass to glass bracket. Install two rivets to secure glass to glass bracket. NOTE: Two 1/4-inch-20 x 1-inch bolts and two 1/4-inch-20 nut and washer assemblies may be used as alternates for glass retention. However, torque must not exceed 4-7 Nm (36-61 lb-in). Equivalent metric retainers (6mm) may be used.
  1. Install door trim panel and watershield. Refer to Section 01-05.

How do you remove and replace a drivers side door window on a 1993 Ford Tempo

The first step is to remove the door panel. The door panel is held on to the sheet metal door frame by plastic push pins that fit inside the door panel (where you can't see them). Use either a flat head screwdriver, or probably a pocket knife would work best, and slowly work your way around the door panel prying the panel and plastic push pins away from the sheet metal. There will be most likely a couple of regular screws in the middle of door but will be much easier to notice where when you have the those pins pushed out. Once you have the panel off your window motor sits inside your door frame and is bolted on (3 bolts if I remember correctly) and attaches right on your window lift assembly. Your window is also fastened to the assembly by two plastic clips that push in on the very bottom of the window. When removing those clips be careful not to apply too much pressure as the curve of the glass makes it very easy to shatter. It would help if you could get someone with small hands to do it. Once the clips are removed you can remove the entire window and replace. PS If you break a few of the plastic push pins don't fret because Autozone sell packs of them to replace. 1993 ford tempo doors wont open or unlock

It's internal. Whatever the problem is, it's gonna require you to take the door panel off and examine. I suspect worn bushings and/or bent linkage. Someone may have tried to "jimmy" your door open with a slim jim and messed something up.
