    Hi Wiz,

No the battery checks out fine. The headlights come on, just not the dash lights that should illuminate when the headlight or fog ligts are on.

    Okay Kevinooo,

I'll check it out and let you know. The owners manual list a 5amp fuse as Instrument Panel Dimmer. Then ther is a listing for Headlight Delay, Overhead Console Cluster. Which do you suggest?

  • rdoss Jul 01, 2009

Yes!!! It was an open fuse. The instrumentation fuse was open. I don't have a spare with that amperage. Will replace today. I believe that will do it! Thank you Mr. Kevin000

You possibly have opened a fuse. get the fuse panel checked.
Your owners manual should give you the locations, and you should be able to find it.

Thanks

You should try to replace the light bulbs in the Jeep , cause there might be a short in the bulb in there now. If not this you may have a low batterie in your car, so i would get this tested. Another solution might be your switch to turn on the lights has disconnected from the lights. Hope I helped and good luck

On my 1998 jeep cherokee all 4 gauges plus speedo and rev counter suddenly went dead ,everything else works fine ,what could be the fault please?

Check for bad harness connection Under the dash at the back of instrument cluster housing. Make sure connectors are plugged in completely. Check all fuses located under dash (drivers side) Consult your owners manual for fuse legend.

cluster dead, and warnings in the cluster are dead.
so does car drive perfectly in the day?
yes.' now.
if all things work but one thing, we check fuses first.
all cars for 100 years same deal.

crackle from radio. ok.

this is the 05 GC and wiring is very complex. I have 2010.
surely you can tell what works an not.
and matters big time.
I say get it serviced, like the 99.9% do.
unless you can post full set of symptoms.

Gauges and radio went out

if you beat on the bottom of the dash where youre knees are it will probably come on common problem, on my 98 i pulled the cluster (not hard) and took a pair of needle nose pliers and just slightly twisted all the pins that go into the back of the cluster to make better contact than put dilectric grease on them
if you google cherokee forums you will find all the answers you need

Dash lights out and gauges not working

Probably a short or bad connection in the wiring behind the cluster, or the printed circuit board on the back of the cluster.

Instrument cluster going dead after airbag light comes on

I had the exact same issue with my 1999 cherokee. None of the gauges worked, the red airbag light was on, the horn didn't work etc.... After going to several different mechanics, it was determined that i had a bad ECM computer. I got online, went to autocomputer exchange.com, got a remanufactured computer, put it in... and all the gauges now work. I highly recommend doing this, because the dealership will screw you for almost $1000 for a new computer... whereas, I paid only $225 for the one from autocomputer exchange. Anyhow, everything works great now.

None of the dash gauges work on my 99 jeep Cherokee

remove the cluster clean contacts with dielectric spray then apply dielectric grease to connectors and reinstall if this doesnt help you need a cluster

The gage cluster

Had the same problem on my wife's 1999 Cherokee.  I had to take the entire left side of the dash off to get the instrument cluster out.  You need to unplug it and clean the plug and the instrument cluster itself off and then put everything back together.  Worked for me and haven't had a problems since.  One note: the headlight switch has to be taken off and it's kinda hard.  You have to get up underneath it and  there is a clip that has to be pinched in order for you to pull the switch off.  Hope this helps because I know what a pain it is!

1998 Jeep Cherokee (sport)

Hi, there is a connector behind the dash that likes to get dirty and create this problem. The connector is behind the instrument cluster. Clean it really well, put some dielectric grease on the connections and re-install. There happens to be a TSB (Tech Service Bulletin) by Chrysler on this problem.
