Do you have the four cylinder or the six cylinder? The six cylinder has 2 camshaft sensors - one for each camshaft. If you are still getting the code, you may have replaced the wrong one.
It's on TDC so align marks on cam shaft and crank shaft with center of cam & crank shafts and the ECM will go from there. so you will have to change the timing chain if its loose or worn out.
i would say your looking at a faulty cam shaft sensor..its located on front side of engine. this fixed the same problem i had..there are 2 sensors one being your cam shaft sensor (normal to go out) and the crank shaft sensor..these work inline with computer to determine correct timing.hope this helps
you sure 7.3 litre petrol engine ,do you own a oil well by any chance ?? well not sure with this american vehicle but i wouldnt have said the batteries would have caused this problem ,now if this is a 1996 then does it have coil packs or a distributor sorry to ask but iam a europeon mechanic and i do not see many of these vehcles only one i have seen was last year and it was a woirk of art changing the spark plugs and yes it was a petrol but with a gas conversion for LPG
maybe a dicky cam sensor even if new! make sure the cam sensor is aligned correctly as if its out even a small amount the car will not run. check it is in place correctly.
Is the car trying to start? or are you getting nothing when turning the key?
crank shaft sen. is easy enough to change.its mounted near timing chain cover, cam sen.is somewhat harder, its in the distributor,id doubt that both are defect
