Question about 1995 Ford F150 Styleside Regular Cab

Sometimes it starts, sometimes it needs to get hammered!

My 95 F150 has had a starting issue on and off for about 80K miles. Truck just turned 200K and this is the only issue I have ever had. Turn the key and it starts to spin the starter and then fades to black. Then I only get a solenoid click. Or I only just get the click. If I go under and rap the starter with a hammer it ususally starts, sometimes with several raps (and some cussing). I've replaced the starter and solenoid 3 times and it has given me false hope that it's fixed........until the next time it happens and just clicks. I'm wondering if it may be an ignition switch or bad positive cable but I don't have to hammer them to get it ot eventually start. I'm leaning to a remote starter system but not sure it will keep me from hammering away. Any ideas?

Sounds to me like a bad wiring connection between the starter solenoid (on the fender) and the starter itself.(I had the same problem on my 95 f150) This is usually due to a smaller than required guage of wire running to the starter. try upgrading this wire to a higher guage...make sure to solder (not just crimp) the terminals on each end. This should solve the problem. if not, then it's time to have your starter re-built as the bearings, or bushings are either worn or sticking.

I think I'd replace the battery cables, starter solenoid, both inexpensive and dumb question... any chance starter has bad connection where it is bolted to block. If it's not getting a good clean connection it can lose continuity. Good luck.

When engine warms up it acts like its not getting fuel but if you turn it off and start it back up it it will run great for a few more miles and then does the same thing all over agian

start with the fuel filter, located on the frame of the truck, sometimes the intial boost from the fuel pump when you start it will push through all right, but once it runs through for a min. the sentiments will setle in the filter and strve the truck, it may also be an issue with a fuel pressure regualtor, a bad injector, or a bad fuel pump, but id start with the filter, cheapest an easiest repare in the bunch

Starting truck ,its idle speeds up and down, then gets better

it sounds like you have a vaccume leak you need to get some starter spray and while the truck is running you need to spray it on the vacume lines and when you spray it and the idle get better the means thats where the leak is and you need to replace the hose

My 97 dodge pickup 318 engine will miss sometimes and some times it will run just fine. it will do this while driving and just idling. Pretty much the same issue but with a 95 5.9L. Usually will spit and...

first ... put a bottle or two of gas line antifreeze in the tank (it sucks up water in the fuel)... if that doesn't sort it out.... your coil pack may be dying

95 F150 wont crank

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.
