Your Pit man or idler arm may need to be replaced, if you have a grease gun. Try greasing the front end components and look for any worn, loose steering parts. Keep in mind that there should be some play so try greasing them first. I use marine grease on my jimmy, it's thicker and repels water and moisture better then conventional grease. The chirping in the transmission could be a sign of low transmission fluid or a dirty transmission oil filter causing the low transmission line pressure which will burn out the transmission if not serviced soon. Have the transmission serviced and have then do a transmission pressure line test, they to have a shop that has a tech 2 scanner so they can program the ECM to raise the transmission oil pressure if needed to save the transmission. There is also a simple up grade for just under $50,00 and that is to have the servo's replaced with corvette servo's, you will have a firmer shift but a longer lasting transmission and that can be changed with out dropping the valve body or dropping the transmission oil pan. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

The linkage came loose from the shifter to the transmission, I suspect. That should be an easy, or cheap fix.

I have a 2000 chevy 1500 and when im doing about 60mph it starts shaking really bad but it comes and goes what could it be

You will have to check your front wheel bearings by jacking up the truck and holding the wheel at 12:00 and 6:00 and try to move it. Then you will also have to check your universal joints in the drive shaft. That will feel as though your rear end is driving on gravel. Wheel bearings or ball joints will show some steering wheel play as well.

2004 Silverado crew cab has rattle around steering

If you feel this rattle while driving at low speed or turning at low speed it is likely a worn out steering shaft coupler, it is very common.

I have a 2004 chevy silverado and the 4 wheel

the most likely cause is the front axle shift motor if bad your your front axle shaft will not lock in.if there is no shifting of transfer case there is also a electric motor that engages that in .

How do i remove the ignition swicth from a 2004 chevy siverado 1500

The procedure to remove the ignition switch is
  1. Start by disconnecting you negative battery cable.
  2. Wait at least 1 minute to disable your airbag system.
  3. Remove the airbag from the steering wheel, it's retained by a couple bolts on the back of the steering wheel.
  4. Disconnect the wires to it, and set it aside.
  5. Remove the clip that is above the lock nut for the steering wheel, then remove the lock nut.
  6. You need a steering wheel puller to pull the steering wheel off. After you remove the steering wheel, you should have access to the turn signal switch.

2004 chev silverado ext cab. No Power steering

Hi Hollings,

You description was very good, I need to ask for a specific.

When you turn to the left, the wheel is stiff like the engine is off or does it turn smoothly but the vehicle doesn't turn or seem to respond.

I'm trying to rule out broken mounts,

Also, if the wheel is all the way to the right, is it difficult turning back to the left the whole way, or half way. See where I'm going.?

Please comment back your findings

Best regards
Mike
